His publicist is the real hero here, then again, it's L.A. so everyone has an angle on how to promote themselves effectively.

Oh, we are talking about the Defenders, sorry. I had a late night last night and I'm a little cranky this morning.
Didn't that dude have that same hat and shirt on in the last promo video? And - don't you need some dreds (or at least more lettuce) to fill wear those hats? I totally agree with his publicist being a hero. People on this board seem to know when a shipment of the smallest oddball Rover part is up for sale yet AFAIK no one knows much about this guy's builds.

I hate to harsh on the guy but stuff like "shred through lake beds and rivers" at 5.5 ft is pretty comical. The builds look pretty good but there isn't all that much documentation on their site. And half of it is some generic footage shot in the UK.

X2. Has anyone actually seen or heard second-hand anything about ANY of his trucks? Anything?

Just love his alt-emo-boner quote: "I'd love to have a Defender to cruise up the PCH to Malibu for lunch."

You are missing the point ... He's creating a brand image, a lifestyle desire ... It doesn't matter if he's only done a couple of trucks and hasn't sold a single one ... He'll be selling west coast defender t-shirts and turning over a $100M a year before you know it.

By god, man - we've totally missed his alt-boner-emo-hip value proposition. I'm going to sell my restored Pontiac Fiero and Molly Hatchet records to angel-fund this shit.

So a couple guys from Neptune Beach, Fl love surfing, fishing and stuff. One installs irrigation the other is in construction so they both get tattoos expressing how much they love playing in the ocean. Their tattoos say- Salt Life. So as the story goes after a day of fishing and drinking they decide to make some bumper stickers and T-shirts while sitting at a bar.

Today they have retail stores and resturants with annual sales of $20 million and they sold the company last year for close to $40 million. Yea, T-shirts.

^^^^^true story

Lifestyle brand.
Another case study would be the "Life is Good" brand.
That platform works with virtually any interest people have.
They started with t-shirts

Haha. Whenever I see those stickers I always think it says "SLUT LIFE". I think that would be a fairly hilarious lifestyle brand. Who wants to make some T-shirts and bumper stickers with me?

It may be t-shirts, because their current LA address doesn't have their name on the outside of the building:

Google street view may not be current. I find that many images can be 2-3 years old.
Still, your point is valid.
Have they actually sold any Ds yet? Lot of talk and hype, but where is there product?

Yes, you're surely correct on the Google Maps - totally missed the date stamp of October 2012. I'm a dingbat.

My brother works in Culver City (near their address) and I've asked him to drive by and take a picture for me. Likely they took over that car audio space. Or not.

I'm still confused though. Does that shop do any of their own work yet? I remember some of their first few vehicles were literally just the exact same vehicles that DefendersUK and LandroversUK were selling and I from what I've seen they still are. It's really just a showroom and not a shop from what I've seen in the videos.

http://defendersuk.co.uk/

http://landroversuk.co.uk/

Here's a good example. West Coast Defenders has on their Tumblr account from January 15th, 2013 "Our Defenders -
The D90. Stop Dreaming and Start Driving - Call us at 310-439-9055" Followed by this grouping of photos. Notice the white walls with grey and orange striping.

http://westcoastdefender.tumblr.com/...riving-call-us

Then if you go into landroversuk.co.uk 's website they have this truck for sale with the same backdrop.
