Insurance Fraud?

So my insurance company just called me to discuss a hit run that is being claimed that I made in my Defender last Thursday about twenty miles away from my house. I am totally confused because my truck barely leaves the garage these days and I drove it last Tuesday and then again this Wednesday. I had a mobile detailer come to the house Monday and wax it but otherwise it barely moves.

Supposedly I hit a parked 2012 Volvo and drove away. Now there isn't a mark on my car and I haven't been in that area in years in my truck so I have no clue what is going on?

Could someone be trying to scam my insurance? It seems really odd.

What do I do?

Total scam. Tell your insurance you were not there and not to pay any claim.

Why would someone with a 2012 Volvo want to scam me? Seems weird.

I would first request a copy of the police report if there is one.
Determine exactly where you were, where your car was at time of "hit and run" to help exonerate the claim. The police report should have a description of the vehicle involved in the hit and run incident. The report may have your license plate, but vehicle description as a Ford Astrovan.

I've had cases, (not the same) where I would get parking tickets based on my license plate number, but doing a little more leg work the vehicle did not match the description of mine. I was cleared from the ticket. Could be a honest mistake by a witness getting a license plate similar to yours but a completely different car.

Someone in a new BMW tried it with me a few years ago. They even had the police write up a police report and leave it on my windshield. I was told it is a common scam.

Police report is useless/meaningless. At the bottom of the report it will say that the police did not witness the incident.

In California you don't need a police report. I am trying to get more info.

It's funny the thing pissing me off is the idea that some fictitious accident will show on my carfax.

You should claim someone "hit and run" into your rear crossmember so that you can finally get that replaced.

Apparently according to carfax my 1994 was stolen in 1995 in PA and recovered a week later. What is funny is that the truck was (a) in texas at the time and (b) carfax just started reporting this in Feb of 2013.

Just tell your insurance company you were not there and don't think about it again.

Your insurance company should defend your position. If for some far-fetched reason you have to appear in court you can repeat the same thing under oath.

Still haven't proved yours is different. I see the delamination all the time. No one seems to look at that when buying. Even on ca trucks.

Anyway I still want it cleared up now.

So I just heard from my insurance company. Apparently the witness took a pic. I am laughing. The pic is of a white discovery.

I wish I had a military Rolex. Somehow a 100k for a watch seems expensive.
