Incorrect ID plate stamping help NAS 110

I am trying to sort out another case where the VIN and the ID plate don't match (according to the LR FAQ).
Does anyone know the whereabout of NAS 110 #353 ??

I heard from customer X that bought #353 new in GA and he gave me the correct VIN and NAS # for #353 with his story. I ran a car fax and that 110 checks out to be in CT.

Then customer Y sent me a note about doing some work on his 110, also #353 but with a different VIN. On this 110 I have a picture of the VIN and the ID plate showing #353.
According to the FAQ his NAS # should be #354.

Does anyone have info on the #353 in CT with just over 100K miles? or on #354?

Please email me if you have any information.

Thanks!

This kind of stuff messes with the ol brain cell. I can only imagine it getting worse down the road as rebuilds get more common. Or even 90 to 110 conversions

I suspect this one can be found between Roswell and Kennedy on page 232

We have found one of the Canadian 110s that had the wrong badge before, but this is the first time we have two confirmed 110s that have the same NAS number (#353).

So it would be simple if customer Y is just supposed to be #354, but if someone steps up and says, "Hey, I own #354" then I think my head will explode.

Did you change the Canadian one to the correct #?

Yes we did.
We spoke to the owners of both trucks and now instead of having two of one number, both trucks have the number they should have had.

Have to ask. Does the Windshield vin tag conform to the chassis and elsewhere on these cars....or could that uncover a new vin mess.....

Considering it is a Land Rover...do you think this mix up happened at the factory?

Well…..
In most cases the windscreen VIN, the T support VIN and the chassis VIN all match (other than the very early NAS 110s where the chassis VIN is different than the other 2. I put up a thread about that before).

In these ID badge cases though it is just the badge that is screwed up. I haven't found two 110s with the same VIN or anything like that.
This appears to me to be all human error done by drunk Nigel at the factory.

Can I get the extra (erroneous) 353?

Mike,

I have it on good authority that all of the badge # plaques were installed, not at the factory, but rather by LRNA at the Port in Baltimore. It's quite possible that there are duplicates and there isn't necessarily rhyme or reason to the number order.

So it was drunk Jeff at the port instead of Nigel at the factory.

Land Rover, doing it half assed is better than never doing it at all.

Yes. I met one of the plaque guys from Maryland at a Blue Ridge Rallye back in 2002.

Still looking for a source for replacement B-pillar VIN stickers. It's making me nervous not having them on the truck. Anyone have a source?

A LR dealer can get you a new VIN decal if you have a clean title.
These are the new type though (rectangular) and will not fit on the T support.
We have been putting them on the bulkhead where the 90s have them when we do re-paints/ galvanize the T-supports.
Not 100% correct, but the best we could find so far.

Interesting that there is a couple others out of sequence around the VIN. I seem to recall two NAS D90s having the same badge number stamp. In any event, those were added at the port and can be changed (unlike the VIN). I would be up for a B-pillar sticker if someone makes a run. I still have my original but it is on the rusty t-post in the basement.

I'm guessing that they really did not care about the number badge. Just a marketing gimmick to chuck on the trucks. You don't expect things to become collector vehicles at the time.
