In Loving Memory of Bailey

This was the most difficult thing I had to do. My wife and I had to put our loving yellow lab Bailey to sleep. We rescued her from a shelter eight years ago. She was three years old when we adopted her. She was my first dog. She was a gentle giant, never barked nor growled, just wanted to always be by our side. She was a loving dog, great with children and never acted out in jealousy when we brought our new born home from the hospital.
She was diagnosed with degenerative myelopathy two years ago. Over the past year, her legs worsened and could no longer go up or down steps. Finally she stopped eating, drinking and taking her medicine and could not hold her self up. We could not stand to see her suffer any longer. My wife and I are truly broken hearted. We lost a part of our family.
If you have a dog, give them a hug and a treat.

We put our black lab down last fall.

He was 10 years old and had a rotated stomach (like Marley and me).

The loss was epic. Our children never knew a day without him.

I feel your loss and send you my regrets

It's tough

Wow so sorry to hear about your loss. Looked like a great dog, cherish your memories with her! The second pic I think sums up her demeanor as you described.

I wish you and your wife my condolences. I understand what you are going through as we did the same thing yesterday. It is tough when you loose a family member.
The one thing that the vet said ,that stuck with me" They have shorter lives than us so we may discover another great personality".

I'm so sorry to hear this, yellows are the best. We lost our yellow boy last year to cancer. He was 10 years-old and spent the last 5 years as a Red Cross Combat Stress Therapy Dog. He touched a lot of lives over the years and left a hole in ours when he passed.

Its like loosing a child unfortunately....lost my chocolate lab just a couple months ago after 15 years of playing in the woods together. Still find myself calling her name during meal time when I feed my other two labs. Always best to get out in the woods as much as you can with them as time is short. My condolences.

Good looking pup. Extremely sorry for your loss. I think everyone who owns a dog fears that this day will come. I've had 2 dogs stolen, one by a Mexican policeman(found out where he lived and jumped the fence in his backyard and took her back) and one by car thieves while i was surfing in la jolla that I never got back. Its tormenting to lose a family member, even the 4 legged ones. .

I am so sorry to hear that. Tearing up just thinking of your loss. :-(

I have been through it and will be again soon.... Our 13 yo black lab Cooper is starting to show signs of her age. So sad - but the love is so genuine and real it's worth the short time if that makes sense. Our 11 month old yellow Iona has kept Cooper young and when it's her time the loss will be enormous.

My thoughts are with you.

So sorry for your loss, Mike - I can't even imagine the day I'll have to do the same. Just remember for every loyal dog that has passed on, there are 1,000 more still looking for a loving home.

I was told this years ago and it's stuck with me for some reason: People are born so that they can learn how to love and live a good life. Dogs are born already knowing how to do both, and so don't have to stick around as long.
