Every state is different, I was speaking for mine, exclusively. In my state, specifically, I was able to register my car and have it insured regardless of year make model ect. The inspection station I went to is frequented by Richard Moody at LR special vehicles in Jamestown RI. So it passed without issue.
Since the car was a classic I didn't need to have a vin check (in RI the car has to be less than 6 years old to require this). I even paid sales tax on a 1987 RR classic NADA... It was like 8% of $2200.
Might be unbelievable to folks in states with tighter restrictions. I drove my D90 off the boat in NJ and home with valid tags and reg, insurance cards and plate stickers. Again, understand everyone's hang ups here, I was just remarking that I (personally) would do it. Although I am certainly not an authority. I'd go with Doug's professional opinion on the matter

But you still must declare it at the border.

Point is the course of action above gets you a state title by defrauding the federal government and bypassing the import process. Yes there are 7 states you can get a state title without the requisite federal import docs. My advice above was that the op not try anything having already published his intent on a forum followed by US Customs.

Good range of opinions. Too risky for my blood though.

I think he's probably on some DHS black badge agency watch list already, so F it. If this were NoKor he'd already be disappeared.

It means that even Bill Cox won't handle importing this truck in question because it is not importable.

The word "entirely" seems to be rather open to interpretation though.

hi rijosho.. well ask all the folks with LR 90s and 110s SEIZED at ports by CBP.. what entirely original means..and what it says on their SEIZURE letters.. ?? when I talked to head of legal.at NHTSA . Coleman told me it means original type engine.. NO swaps from diesel to gas. or gas to diesel and NO 300 TDiS. Puma or Coyotes engines and NO gavi frames.. new paint and new interiors seems to be OK. this week.. later bc
