Import costs ???

Hi,

Just out of interest, if you wanted to re-import a NAS to the US how much would it cost?
Anyone know shipping cost and what taxes might be involved?

Many thanks

James

If you already own it. It should be no more than 2500 using a customs broker. I have a contact and yes I have imported a truck.

depends on the value stated on the import docs, if it has a US title then I believe thes no duty as its a returning vehicle. A customs broker should cost no more than $600!.

How long does the vehicle need to be out of the USA for it to be considered exported (necessitating importing it back in)?

if it is a true NAS spec then no limit. I did two UK 90's for 5K delivered to Dallas Texas.

If a truck is outside of the US and titled outside the US it is not treated as a returning vehicle, regardless if its been in the US before, its treated as an import. Returning vehicles are exactly that, US registered vehicles that have been out of the US and are returning IE examples would be military personel's personal vehicles, diplomats personal vehicles, or world travelers like most of us would like to be, who's vehicles are still registered here. Any other import will need to meet the rules and be charged duty. Imports by active military personel are not charged duty.

what Doug said- a friend just brought back a previously titled NAS90 from the Caribean where it had most recently been titled. He shipped it home, easy to get reregistered/titled, but did have import duties to repay- go figure.

Had one 90 that I brought over from the UK-still had California plates. Fellow had to pay duty because he bought it from an American out of the country. Ie wasn't registered in his name.

So your expences are truck, shipping, import duty, agent (if used)?
What if you import a UK truck rebuilt to US spec.s; would you pay import on the purchase cost of the truck or on the truck plus the cost of the parts in the re-build?

Not sure I understand your question's completely. To answer one of them, you would pay US Customs duty on the price of the truck purchased plus any restoration work perfomed on it. Both receipts would need to be provided to US customs. Not sure what you are asking otherwise. I haven't seen any imports built to US specs.
