We are west of the eye (hurricanes spin counter clockwise) so winds are blowing the tide out - there should be minimal surge (3-4ft) about 4am.
Was out earlier in the disco and found two working traffic lights in three zip codes-pretty much the whole grid is down here.

Hunkering down here on Long Island. The conditions will worsen as the night goes with the storm peaking around 8 AM, just in time for that new moon high tide. Irene isn't gaining strength and in fact the pressure appears to be rising. Still, my greatest concern is surge over wind as I live by the water.

All the best to everyone affected. Many on this forum are in Irene's path.

Rode out to my girlfriend's parents' house as our apt in NYC is flood zoned. Before we went I called her dad who said they have a 6'6" garage and that they used to park their old Expedition in there no problem. What he forgot was that they had their garages redone a few months ago and their garage frames were all rebuilt. Came to realize it's now really only a 6'4" garage. Desperate times called for desperate measures. 4" lower after deflation I made it in. Pumped 'em back up a little once back in so that it wouldn't be sitting on the sidewalls like that, but still for a bit there I thought my truck was screwed (they have a bunch of old trees over the driveway and the ground is already saturated with record rainfall this month). Storm is persistent but not overpowering with wind yet. Heard a few transformers go last night and we've been without power for a few hours now.

Sitting in New Hampshire with flickering power. Heavy rains but the wind isn't too bad (yet). Our flight out tomorrow has already been cancelled, looks like we'll be on an extended holiday up here.

Lavender,

We should have come up to visit! Lost power here at 5 am when the transformer down the street blew. Now watching all my beer head toward 70 degrees. Absolutely calm here now.

Had power all night but no cable. A bunch of limbs down in the yard and with the wind more still coming down. Have a few days worth of work to clean back up. Went over to my brother in laws and my son and nephews were having fun taking a kayak through their yard and down the street.

Glad that's over. Now the Bay will be choked with garbage that washed out of all the creeks.

I've got 3 trees down during the storm , lost power at 12:30-1:00 am due to a tree down on the road taking the power line, my pool looks like a swamp, debris ( tree branches and leaves everywhere ), power resumed by 7:00 pm yesterday

Yesterday , I was outside and I watched tree number 4 falling from the driveway into the woods....

I am waiting for insurance company to tell me what is covered ( as it did not hit the house )

Thanks Irene *LOL*

The inlaws front yard. This is not river front property either. I had water midway up my tires before I moved it to higher ground.
