Why? Other than corrosion issues what is so lacking with the Defender frame?
How about an open challange between a D90 and an Icon? I'd like to see how much better a $135k 4x4 is offroad. Anybody out have one?

ICON Bronco in NY Times

http://www.nytimes.com/2011/10/30/au...the-times.html

"The attraction of resurrecting sturdy-looking vehicles from the past may partly reflect today’s dire economics, and may have spawned a trend that goes a step further. An extreme expression of the low-bling ethic can be seen in the so-called derelict cars that have started to appear alongside the spotless six-figure hot rods.

The derelicts, raw and as-found on the outside but entirely modern under the skin, also acknowledge the growing fervor over “barn find” classics, a branch of the shabby-chic mindset that satisfies a yearning for authenticity and originality"

hmm, these "derelicts" and "barn finds" sound familiar.....

Speaking of Derelicts, I ran into Jonathan Ward from Icon 4x4 tonight driving his derelict Desoto. We chatted about what Land Rover has done with the DC100 and he also feels they have royally screwed it up (my words).

I asked him if he would consider a Land Rover project and he's completely open to it. All he needs is someone with vision (and funds) so he can 'geek out' on a one-off build. One of the ideas he threw out was a redesigned frame, a LR body and some time.

If there is anyone here fit this criteria, he'd love to chat with you. Tell him Javier with the Series Land Rover rebuild sent you.

I saw that on his website. Freak-en awesome! I have always liked cruisers. My dad has owned 2, and 83 and 88 FJ63. WE drove the 83 for a long long time.

I was looking at a FJ60 while I was there. Very cool and affordable.

The 83 FJ 60 they have looks really nice. We had a Blue one like that when I was a kid. I have seen a few here in Oahu. Looks like a good price on a very cool truck. I've also been keeping an eye out for a 95 Classic LWB. Keep going back and forth. I want something to drive out here daily that can carry kids and beach gear.

I have a friend with a 62 series, similar to the 60. I like the size of the 60 series trucks. Being completely unbiased and all things considered Id go with the LWB. The only advantage I see to the Toy is the lack of electronicory..
