I swear Honey the Defender 110 followed me home

So it's official, I'm leaving the Range Rover Classic Club and joined the 110 club

I flew out to Maryland and picked up a 83 110 5 door station wagon off of Rugbier. She has a 3.5 carbed V8 4 speed manual wrapped in Trident Green goodness. She will get a tasteful resto mod, I'll upgrade things for creature comforts etc but nothing to drastic.

After we got the headlight switch mystery solved I got on the road to head home to Chicago with one small detour to Rovers on the Rocks 4. I had a great time meeting folks, I've chatted with here on the forums for years. Sunday morning with my first mod done (winch bumper) I hit the road to home. 14 long hours later, she's in my drive and work begins.

Thanks to Gustavo for a great deal on a solid starter 110 and all the hospitality. Thanks to Justin (lucky8llc.com) and Trevor (roverlabs) for putting on a great event. Also thanks to Justin for bringing the bumper with him to save me the cost of shipping.

Of course here are the pics:

New bumper and winch going in:

A couple new stickers:

New badge I have to decide where to mount:

Congrats! It was great meeting you - and thanks for taking pics of my run on the rock challenge course for me.

Did you get to actually meet the elusive Gustavo?

I not only met the International Man of Mystery, I spent the night at his place and broke bread with his wonderful family. I still think the broken headlight switch was just an excuse to spoon with me.

No worries on the pics glad to help, hopefully a few of them came out alright lol.

edit:

Funny thing is the stock galvy bumper is laying the back of the 110.

Glad to hear that truck drove to Indiana without issue. It gave me problems @ the docks.

Oh it's still a bit of a pain in the ass to fire up. A touch of patience and she roars to life and runs really well.

I actually took her past Indiana, all the way to McHenry, IL about 40 miles northwest of Chicago.

All in all a good 110 so far.

I can't make any promises on that I only had it for 24 hours and I already changed to a TerraFirma front bumper.

Those have been replaced with a Edlebrock intake and Holley Carb.

What are your impressions of the terrafirma bumper ? I liked the look of it but held off when I saw how little it weighs. I have a warn 9000 sitting around I'd like to put on Trey's trident green 110.

Congrats! Looks like a clean truck from my phone pics.

I agree with Ron/evilfij - keeping the og green will be the way to go. I think it will look great with the add-ons like the new bumper and whatever else you do.

Wish I was at ROTR - would have loved seeing the 110 in person and meeting another board member

Doug, the bumper is definitely not the most heavy duty I have seen since I can manhandle it around myself. I will take some detailed photos this afternoon and write up my observations on it for you guys since I haven't seen a lot of them on Defenders yet.

I'm not sure about keeping the trident green yet, but it's growing on me a bit. I do dig the old school look of the 110.

Eventually I wouldn't mind a 4.2 FI, ZF auto and lt230 for the drivetrain. For now though it will stay carbed until more money is available for drivetrain mods.

Bill,

I told you it was just plain hospitality.. you kept insisting on my spooning you... but at the end.. you gave up...*phew * LMAO

I am still pissed at the switch situation.

John,

Naah.. Bill almost needed surgery to wipe out the big ass grin he had all the time

Josh,

As elusive as I have to had Bill take a shuttle from the airport and meet me at work, then we drove home, spend some good time talking and Friday off he went to ROTR.

Doug,

Those SU carbs drove me crazy, so on Andrew's recommendation we put the Edelbrock/Holley combo.

Now.. that I have sold "almost" all my Rovers I am getting a Prius and Jeep

Doug,

Here are my impressions on the TerraFirma pro-blade taper winch bumper.

It's made up of 3/16" steel, all the winch mount areas are fully welded on all seams. It has a additional bracing located near the bolt mounts for the winch. The winch mount area also has a rolled lip that comes down underneath that the bracing is welded into. It has a couple of recovery points that are 5/16 thick welded in. It boxes in the frame horns nicely and uses 3 bolts per side to mount up. It has a very large winch mount area at 28" wide, so it should fit about anything you want to toss in there. The powder coat looks nice but isn't the most durable I've seen. It looks nice on the truck only thing I would like is to see it mounted about 1" or so closer to the body. This one is a AC bumper which might account for the extra distance. It's no RTE or Equipe bumper but with a price point of less than $500 you can't fault it.

Overall it's a nice looking bumper that is well put together at a great price. Pics attached

Goose,

Once again thanks for having me in your home, it was great meeting you and your family. Oh everyone at ROTR knows to call you with any light switch questions they might have

The thing that is going to take the most getting used to is all the people coming up to talk to you at gas stations, Dunkin Donuts etc. I never realized how many people know what a Defender is.
