Here's how I sold it to myself and my wife:
Calculations were based on gas @ $4 gal, (which they were at the time)
Was driving a LR Disco V8, 13mpg avg 12,000/year $3692/year in fuel
LR 110 200Tdi, 26mpg @ 12,000- about 1900/year in fuel.
$1792 in fuel savings/year
Honey, this 110 will pay for it's initial "investment" in ten years through fuel cost savings!! I mean... it's a no-brainer.
Since it was a LR for LR swap, maintenance cost would be similar if not lower for the 110--less complicated, less stuff to go wrong.

Tell her the truck is for her! Youll just be driving to make sure all the bugs are worked out and fluids flowing properly...

Three step program:

1 - Buy her diamond earrings

2 - ???

3 - Buy Defender

4 - Profit

Come up and take a 110 from my fleet and drive her around. Fun.

This is more of a conversation you need to have when you buy a second or third one...
The first, just buy it...

Unless she is like the girl I have been hanging with and she thinks camping is for bums and the Grand Canyon is just this big gaping hole in the ground.

She doesn't even get excited by the Angkor temples in her own country.

But she does like beaches.

Buy the Rover and the Shepard puppy at the same time. Have the pup sitting in the 90/110 when you show her it the first time. Smile and said he wouldn't look right riding around in our "insert current vehicle". If you need an extra safety net tie a box with some jewelry around his neck.

On a very practical level, take it from someone who knows: German shepherds and cars do not mix.

What you do with this information is up to you.

The dog hair is an accoutrement. Every dog owner knows there are only 2 levels of cleanliness: "Dog Clean" and "Dirty"

Man that's my wife spot on!! Couldn't care less about camping. Carlsbad Caverns and Grand Canyon...she was meh, big deal. Plop her on the beach and she's happy.

It followed you home from work one and you ask if you can keep it.

Start with a non-stop interest in buying a motorcycle. When she's reached near divorce point with your obsession with death traps, say that you'll forget motorcycles forever if you can buy a Defender.
