I guess not all of them get crushed

After seeing the dramatic video of that 110 getting crushed I guess I fell for their plan, that all the illegal imports would be destroyed. Not so as I just got word we are to work on this Defender 110 that was just bought from a US Customs auction.
It is destine for a customer outside the USA, so it isn't like you can buy your truck back if it was taken, but at least some of these trucks will live on outside the US.

Original import

Why the hell would anyone buy an old one like this if they are anywhere else? This makes no sense!

Canadian customer. Looks like they bought it for around $7000.
Might not be such a bad deal (depending on condition).

What made this one ineligible for import? It looks like a crappy old truck to me.

Could have been the date of import/date of manufacture issue.

This would be my guess, as the truck has a 2.5 td in it (and that is what the VIN says it should have) and it was imported in 2013.

Yep...because if it was actually brought in a few weeks too EARLY, CBP would have a known issue.

This was one of the sticky points with the NC case.
Some trucks were completely original, but were a few weeks(maybe even days?) shy of legal!

Man it's fun to track these.

Looks like it ended up at Osachuk Holdings, Inc up in Ontario after Jeffrey Osachuk got it.

Jeffrey also purchased that 1987 from our gov.

got some Uship quotes.

Looks like it sold for $3430. What made the red 110 go for $7000?

That is totally jacked up. Vehicles seized and sold @ auction are supposed to be exported via a US Customs approved 7512 form to non- contiguous countries- ie Canada and Mexico are unacceptable. What is further jacked up is that every one who touches one of these trucks is supposed to be bonded with US Customs-ie even the tow truck driver and shipping line.

Reminds me of the wood issue we had in a container years ago.
One of our suppliers put stuff on a pallet that was not made from approved wood (stamped).
So Customs went off on us and made us pull the entire 40' container apart, unbox every part, etc.
We then had to pay fines, pay for the container facility time and either ship the offending wood back to the UK or pay to have it disposed of "properly".
We paid to have it disposed of as it was about the same cost of shipping it back to the UK.

Years later I was talking with one of the truck driver's that delivers our containers and he recalled the same story (he was there the 2 days we had to mess with the container at their facility).
I asked him if guys with hazmat suits came and collected the pallets or what?
He said,"Nope. Once you left Customs just told us to burn it out back."

Rules that aren't really rules and can be changed at the will of the agent.

Yup. Went through EXACTLY the same thing with Canada Customs and the skid my doors were on. Yet the amount of stuff I have seen come through in un-approved skids is ridiculous...

Seems like the rules are always different depending on the time of day...

The Rules were the same. The 1987 we filed all the paperwork through Canadian Customs and proved to US Customs the vehicle is permitted in to Canada. They waived the Non-Contiguous bit and allowed us to continue. A US shipper scammed us, and finally we got the truck in to Canada.

I sold it to a nice First Nations fella.

Marcel, sorry bud, but your 1993 was in horrible condition... Reason it went for 3430. The Red one was in better condition, but I stopped bidding at 7000. Wasn't worth it.

Marcel. Yours I had a hell of a time with. CF-7512? Pfffft had to be stamped.... Shipper was dispatched to pick it up 3 times, but we had to continually jump through hidden hoops that were not written anywhere in the terms and conditions of the sale. Then buddy charges me $1000CAD to swap wheel to the spare.
Then I had to have the VIN Verified by Land Rover, and had the Title created as a 1988 seeing how the US gov, somewhere along the line, decided it was a 1993.

I have since sold the 1988 to a local Land Rover enthusiast. He was a customer of mine who had work done on his LR4.
