I found something I suck @

http://dividingcreekimports.com/

In an effort to comply with LRNA's demands that I take my site down and not use 'rover" in the domain name I have been forced to publish a new website. Unfortunately the online tools that I used to create the first one could not be used to simply migrate the site to the new address or cut and paste pages to a new site. My host is yahoo and they suggested that rather than web based that I develop the new site using Yahoo's "Sitebuilder".
I now have a rudimntary shell of a site up and a redirect posted @ the old address- LRNA's second extension expired July 7th and they made it clear that was their last. I find sitebuilder cumbersome and not nearly as user friendly as previous site publishing software I've used.

It is a simple task of switching DNS records on your nameserver to point at your old host. You certainly shouldn't have to build a new site if you don't want to.

Additionally, you might want to setup a CNAME record or, perhaps better, a 301 redirect at dividingcreekroverimports.com

EDIT: I see you use Yahoo hosting. I have no idea if you've run into a limitation with them or not, but if you have FTP access you can transfer your other site over I would imagine.

Called twice spoke with different people it wasn't possible to transfer the site.
Part of LRNA's demand is that I surrender the domian when the renewal date come up. Until that time I can have the redirect up.

So much for ownership rights.

Not sure if it will work for you, but I built my site with http://www.squarespace.com/

It would require a rebuild in your case which you said you don't really want to do. But I will say that it's not hard to build with all their templates and you can get as intricate as you want with coding, which I have no clue about. Pretty reasonable rates too. If you are interested I can give you a discount code.

Be careful using proprietary tools, if sitebuilder falls in to that category. It can make it really hard if you ever decide to move again. Use as many actual standards as possible.

Daniel that would be great but it would have to be something I could change, add to as necessary.

Too bad you hadn't purchased like a 10-year domain registration for it or something. I'd say you still hold the registration of it, just don't have it point anywhere.

Jason,
Whats the point of that ?
I have re-branded, dropped use of the logo that I had, and have had the new domain since last November.

You really should see if you can change your nameservers and 301 all your old pages to the new domain with a mod_rewrite rule. Google still has your old site indexed really well, but the new one not so much.

The 301 helps them figure out you've moved. That'll ease your rankings and such when you finally get rid of the rover domain. Also would be helpful if you claim your site on google webmaster tools

If you figure out you can change your nameservers, let me know. I can serve the 301 for you if you don't have a server that will.

I used "Sandvox" to build my website, and my wife's website. It's cheap, easy, and change-able. It might be "Mac Only" tho'.

I think Chris is onto something. You shouldn't have to rebuild or move the site just because you are switching (surrendering the old) domain. If you do decide to to rebuild I suggest using Wordpress. If someone builds you a template you can then update it very very easily whenever you want.

Yeah it can be all done up in XML, image galleries, text and so on. XML is stupid simple to update. just change some numbers in a text document and upload the new images. I do lots of flash site like that using XML so clients can update them easy.

Daniel, ever done a Wordpress theme? Sounds like that would be best for him. It works almost like the Yahoo site creator he's been using.

I think he needs a little more than wordpress for his needs but if someone wants to make him a nice looking theme he has an outstanding offer for hosting a wordpress based site (or any other open source/Linux based CMS)

Judging by dividingcreekroverimports.com Wordpress would definitely be perfect. It's a great CMS for sites like that. It's easy to add pages and a great WYSIWYG editor. It's not just for blogs. Something like Drupal or building on Django is probably a bit overkill. I could be wrong. Is there something on the backend he's doing that Wordpress won't do?

He needs a good theme. If Dan has ever done a Wordpress theme before, he should probably take him up on that

By the way... You've got a pretty outdated version of Apache running.

Doug,

Sounds like you have some skilled people willing to help you out so that might be the way to go but just wanted throw out another option if you wanted to give it a try.

I purchased a template when I built my site back in the day, it was pretty easy to modify it to look / work the way I wanted.

Not sure if the templates are outdated at this point but here is the company I used.
http://www.ecommercetemplates.com/

Here is the template I used
http://www.ecommercetemplates.com/fp...virtualsmooth/
click on the link "Take a tour of the admin section" to see where you can add pages and products

Here is what mine looked like after I modified it a little.
http://web.archive.org/web/200903242...brication.com/

The backend / shopping cart was pretty cool, you could add products in a couple of mins and it had a bunch of cool features that made it easy to use.

Doug is your new site up and running? My work computer only really blocks pornographic sites (I think) and your www.dividingcreekimports.com site gives me an "Access Denied" page - like I'd see if I try to view something like an inapproriate link that Tom has posted here or something.
