Why wouldn't we all just do what I did and go to autotrader uk, and find a good 85+ defender for 5k us and just ship it. Still be under 10k right?

Am I naieve?

Well my 85 I bought off of ebay uk and I am into it about 7k and with shipping closer to 10K. NOW... that being said It is going to be completely rebuilt. I am not expecting anything but a rust bucket. Short of going to England or Europe yourself, your TOTALLY rolling the dice on condition.

Other than the blatant attempt to mislead the buyer, that 90 looks pretty. 1983 90? Nope. "registered on a Q plate (no one will know the true year)"... like playing against the house when they are using loaded dice?

You can find one yourself, buy it, ship it, and import it. Who will arrange for it to get to the dock? Who will arrange for export? Who will arrange for shipping? Who will run around the dock jumping though bureaucratic hoops? Like Peter said, unless you're going over there yourself and doing all of the leg work you'll end up paying someone or a group of someones to help you out and that service costs $. When I imported mine, I had some help on the UK side and some good advice from the board. Close to 10k landed + a pile for oxidation mitigation.

You are correct thread starter. Lots of people have done it. The smart ones pay Doug to do it for them.

My advice is don't buy a 'Q' plate vehicle, these were issued to vehicles that had a questionable date of maunfacture. you may be opening a can of worms.

Just talking trash, I have enough stuff coming in so the last thing I need to do is bring them in for someone else. Doug is the man and I have sent him a couple folks already this year.
