Angry Hurricane Dennis

Well, here we go again....

I am getting sick & tired of this crap !!!
It has only been 10 month since we got hit, we didn't had much structural damage
but It was scarry as hell !
We live 3 minutes from the beach in Destin...and this will be likely a dirrect hit!
I will be staying put !! I will NOT leave w/out my PETS !!
Started to board up the windows...got my generator ready to "rumble"
Toped off the BMW & my Rover....dry food and canned goods are on the kitchen counter.
Filled up all of my Bathtub's w/ water ( only way to flush the toilet ) if the water-main goes
Got flashlights all over the house, likely to be w/ out power for a week or two.
Yeah...thats really great when its 97 F outside with a 100% hummidety
Man...this shit is getting old...I HATE LIVING HERE !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Now it's just sitting here and waiting for it to make landfall...
Wish me luck...I could really use some Rum right now !!
Well, better go to get some liquer...take of the edge ..
Thanks for letting me vent...worried in Destin

Christine

Man, Destin's pretty, reclaimed swamp or not.

If it makes you feel any better, people in New Orleans are freaking out as well. I'm going through the same exact stuff -- filling the tub up, gathering candles and batteries. I have to go buy some food this afternoon. We just got hit with a badass tropical storm and a lot of people just got their power cut back on. It's the silly season already, I guess.

Once these bastards get in the gulf there's no telling what they might do.

Follow-up Post:

Oh yeah, if you still want to leave, most motels let you bring your pets if you are evacuating.

The problem for me is the fargin traffic...

Dam Hurricanes! Move up North, at least when it snows out it's an excuse to drive around in the Defender through the snow when all the other cars are getting stuck.

Good luck!

Cat 4 and growing? Forget it, I wouldn't ride one out in an Abrams. I draw the line at winds of 125mph. We took a direct hit from a Cat 3 up on Long Island when I was a kid, it wasn't much fun watching 100ft tall trees falling all over the lawn. Took us 2 days before we could even go a mile down the road, which was where the nearest water supply was.

But it was cool when the supermarket said "Free Meat, take it before it goes bad!"

If it really comes straight at you I say take the pets, put them in the Defender, and run like hell!

The BMW can be replaced.

The thing is, getting the hell out is almost as big a pain in the ass as staying. Last year, some freinds of mine spent 30 hours in the car to get from New Orleans to Baton Rouge -- 80 miles, usually a one hour trip. You know how miserable that is?

Almost as miserable as being without power or water for two weeks after a strom, provided you make it through the storm, that is.

Evacuating sucks.

Well, if you're gonna stay, make sure your pets have the proper eye protection.

I'll take the Northwest's earthquakes and spewing volcanoes any day. At least we dont have a yearly "earthquake and volcano season."

Good Luck!
I spent some time after Isabel cleaning up in VA (Yeah I know, but it put a lot of people out of power for a few weeks) and it SUX!
Let us know if we need to put a special aid kit together for the D (I'm thinking blue tarp, duct tape, and a hair dryer to plug in the cig. lighter).

Totally with Hans though, pack up the D, leave the BMW, and drive around all the traffic on the way out.

Best of Luck....Now that it has passed I hope everything went well for you. Im in Western NC and we got pounded by what was left of the Ivan? and Frances? last year with massive flooding and landslides. Im sure I don't speak alone when i say i hope all is well and you and your pets are safe now that everything has moved away.....

It's only July and we are already on "E" with the names?! It may be a long season. I really hate these things.

Hope all is well Rover-Girl.

Yep, this time of year sucks here in the east. Richmond has been pounded the past two years, Isabel and Gaston. Shockoe bottom still hasn't fully recovered.

I might move back up north or to the northwest states soon....

Talking wow, what a ride.....

Well, turned out to be not as bad as everyone thought.
We had no power for three day's after the storm.
I am just glad we has enough sence to finally buye a
generator and a window-unit ( AC ) for the bedroom
We all did ok and of course...if it hasen't been for "BIG BURTHA"
We would not been able to get...plywood, 60 gal of gasoline, generator ( as big as a small size car)
1/2 a ton of dog and catfood window-unit and many other needet Items...yeah...the ROVER saved the day..
Well...its good to be back, see you guye's arround...gotto go do some " mud surfing "
