How to Assess an old 110

I am new to the forum and did a few searches to try and find info on the site so my apologies if this is a redundant post. I am a novice admirer of the defenders and have been looking for something to restore for some time. I came across an old 110 that is being sold for relatively cheap. The owner won't let if off the lot b/c its not insured, so I cannot get it to a mechanic. I am assuming the biggest risk to me is rust. Any way you guys can guide me for what to look for myself or is it too tough for a novice?

Thanks in advance,

Seems a bit odd that you can't take it for a test drive. If you are serious you could get it to a mechanic on a flat bed or maybe someone local could go take a look with you.

But if you are generally mechanically inclined you can check most things you would on any truck. You should be able to make sure the center diff locks, and 4 low works if you have a few feet to move in. If the bulkhead is badly rusted you can tell without effort, but afaik it could be pretty bad and not obvious. The rest of the fram is pretty easy to check. Look at the bottoms of the doors for rust issues there.

Can you take pictures? What is it's general condition and what kind of things does it appear needing attention?

Also, when you say 'Old 110' ... you do know that the only legal year currently is 1993 NAS, which there were only about 500 made.. anything other than that is probably grey market and worth a fraction of the price.
