How much should i pay ?

I am looking for a car to keep in the USA for when i come over on business, i was thinking of a 3.9V8 Disco 1 auto, I like this model as the engine is bomb proof.

I'd also concoder a D2, but i don't want a 4.6 as the engine is crap. did they do the D2 with the 4.0?

Looking or a rust free example, I am going to keep it in Nevada.

I though of sending out a Defender, but there too valuable to have sitting arround and not used reguarly.

There should be plenty of DIs for a few thousand bucks. Check the Dweb forums. 99-02 DIIs have the 4.0 engine. If you care about CDL, then I think 99 is the only year with it. I think a couple of the years after it had the CDL nipple on the tcase. Other than that, CDL wasn't offered again until 04.

Hey Julian,

Here in the US we have:

GEMS 3.9L '94-95 Discovery I
GEMS 4.0L '96-99 Discovery I
Bosch 4.0L '99-02 Discovery II
Bosch 4.6L '03-04 Discovery

The CDL is the Center Differential Lock. If you are going to use this truck as a daily drive, you don't need this option. But, since you are looking for a 3.9L that's irrelevant, they all have CDL.

You can get a '94-95 (3.9L) DI for $3k, even $1k if you don't mind working on it.

I can take care of the Defender, I'll keep it top notch while you are out of town...

Hope this helps.

Pedro

What you want is a 14CUX 94 or 95 disco. Expect to pay 3k for a nice one. Frankly, having it sit will kill it and you are better off with some econobox honda or something.

what part of Nevada, Julian? Reno or Las Vegas.
We have a place just north of Reno - if you're in that area, maybe we'll cross paths at some point...and could help if needed.

Tony its Las Vegas. Main reason for this is I have to go to a wedding in Seattle in Feb and we are driving from las Vegas, and the Hire companies want over $1500 for a luxury SUV for a week, so I thought i buy one instead. And Dougs right, when not in use by me the GF can have it, also i will sign write it so I get free advertising.

Well, you're a little south. Probably be driving up 395 to Seattle - which is a pretty good highway.

couple quick checks off Las Vegas area Craigslist... (http://lasvegas.craigslist.org/)

http://lasvegas.craigslist.org/cto/1989435063.html
http://lasvegas.craigslist.org/cto/1957903816.html

but you will probably have better selection out of the LA area and So Cal cars are usually very clean.

Ooooo, here's one with the coveted 4.0 V6

Get this one. Offer the $1500 you would have paid to rent a truck.

they didn't (at least not until the DIII) - always fun seeing a listing by an owner who knows their vehicle. But with the hood latch being broken, I guess they can be forgiven (but I'd wonder when the oil was checked last)
