Uhhhhhh...... are you parting your beastie? Say it isn't so!

*vulture mode on full* I call dibs on any and all parts if so!

I asked this question not too long ago for a buddy of mine and the answer came back from as little as $2k to as much as $7k with the frame.

And I've seen as high as $7,500 with the full cage, which this doesn't have.

Jimmy, are you thinking of parting it out? Perhaps the better question is what are the parts worth? I'm curious to know too, but suspect that unless you are willing to do a lot of haggling and shipping, and wait a long time (maybe years) to sell it all, you won't get as much parting it out as you can selling it whole.

Anyone want to take a stab at putting a *realistic* value to the big bits?

identity (perhaps including the frame/rolling chassis and or cage)
ST cage
drivetrain
rolling chassis
body (or tub, bulkhead, front clip seperated)

Or suggest other ways to break it down to be able to part it out?

It seems to me the only real value is the NAS identity and cage. The rest you might as well buy from an equivalent year or newer from the UK and/or drivetrain parts from cheaper vehicles like discos.

I agree with Charles... For a Defender is not worth it.

I can dig my spreadsheets and see what I got for the parts I sold out off my RRC's. I can tell you it was a lot less than $3k. At the end I was tired of dealing with low ballers and... (put the adjective of your choice here) I ended up giving the truck away.

He might get $6k for the rolling chassis. I've seen on Ebay burned to the ground D90 sell for more, I think that is it.

Most of the parts he can sell fast are swappable from DI and RRC. ie. motor, t-case, tranny, axles, rims. No one will pay high dollar for those anyways.

I'd think that a few years ago it would have been worth a lot more.. but now that the early 80s 110/90s are eligible for import it's just as easy to get one of those titles for any 'project' someone may want to make.

You had your truck last listed at 17k... have you tried it on EBay with that price?

That too... The UK 80's trucks are hurting the NAS market bad, specially the '97.

Yeah, or try it on eBay for $17k, remove the following first, and I'm first in line for them.

-QT front and rear diff guards
-2 of Troys wheel well boxes - I'd probably only need one.
-Badger Half Cab top for GK in Black (just the top cabin cover I'd want). I already have all of the other pieces (drop curtain, tonneau, etc.) so you could sell those...took me a few days to sell an extra set of the same things. Also have a set of the horizontal bars (for above the door tops) if you want to sell the GK to someone. And I have a Badger bikini w/ straps you could slap on there to replace it.
-Snorkel

The economy is hitting the sellability of all trucks. I will never be convinced that imports hurt the value of NAS trucks. They are not the same, period.

And I agree with sentiments already voiced - you typically get shafted parting things out.

I just asked out of curiousity, can't see myself stripping it down when i can't even be bothered to drive it. I enjoy the off-roading but get no real pleasure using it as a daily driver
