I'm waiting to hear if the alligator that grabbed the 2 year old at disney was actually a croc. first time in Disney World history? hmmmm.

Alligators usually run from humans.

The same crossed my mind this morning. There used to be a water park (River Country - now closed) on the same lake for years without issue

VNN just stated today Disney has closed all their beaches. I'm sure that means a big gator roundup to clear out the lake and recover the body. once they are all caught, they'll know if there was a nile in it. you can bet that will be the first one cut open looking for human remains.

I would be beside myself if it was my kid.

Orlando has had the worst week ever.
The possibility of a croc being in a central Florida lake is awfully low. Our gators are pretty docile, comparatively speaking, but they still need to eat. I've heard far too many stories of dogs going missing and personally seen 60+lb pigs eaten before. A small child would be a very easy target for anything in the 6' range.

While the attacks that occur here are very few and far between, gators are still a very real threat that frequently go overlooked. That's an absolutely awful situation for the parents and everyone involved.

I'm fairly certain the Croc issue is an invasive species issue caused by people dumping exotic pets in the Everglades (as is the Python and lion fish issues in S. Florida) and not attributable to all of our Rovers getting sub 15 mpg

True but as climates change their (alligators) range will expand.

Yes I understand the Croc is an invasive species. Dont get me started on invasive plant and animal species, I spend a lot of time killing exotic non-native plants. Lowes is the devil.

I was only throwing a little fuel on the fire with the previous post.

I'll put that one in the Fat Chance category then, along with Trump winning the GOP primary.

Guess I forgot about how small the child was - you're right about gators picking off dogs, cats, and smaller animals somewhat regularly. Regardless of if its a croc or not Lake Jessup is about to get a lot more gators in it after Disney rounds up and dumps the gators in there

Terribly sad story. Bet they are cutting open each one they catch. I wouldn't want to be that person.

Well... Orlando alligator: Body of boy seized by alligator 'found'
