How do you ship a bonnet and rear door

Found a bonnet and rear door that I would like to pick up but its in California and I am on the East Coast. Anyone have any first hand knowledge on the cost of shipping roughly?

Guessing best way is to crate it?

I don't, but also confirm which party is responsible for potential damage. It is not as simple as contacting the shipping company. Lots of bad scenarios discussed here.

Yeah, I hear that. Probably wait till some pop up on east cost. Not a "need" by any means right now.

I just shipped a bonnet. $375 to midwest. $400 to Cali.
It goes by size up to 90 lbs. Get big boxes from autobody shops. They get them in all the time.
Door about half that cost.

I have rear doors if you want. Used in excellent condition. And brand new in box.
Bonnets. Used or Brand new?

Just used Fastenal to ship an R380. They are a really good option. You have to give them the dimensions and weight and destination of what you want to ship, then they give you a quote. They have different options: freight rate is the item strapped to a standard pallet, no overhang allowed. Different rate if the item is crated, I think. Weirdly, you pay at the receiving end, not up front.

For easily damaged items like doors and bonnets, best way to ship is to build a wooden frame around the cardboard box that it is in. That protects the edges from getting dented.

You take your item to your local Fastenal. You go in and tell them you have a giant heavy "X" in the back of your truck. The kid behind the counter runs and gets the forklift, unloads your "X" and drops it on a pallet. You tell them where you want it to go and give the name of the person who is going to pick it up. Yer done.
Later, they call your recipient when it arrives. Recipient drives to local Fastenal, swipes credit card, and kid on the other end uses his forklift to put "X" in recipient's truck. Ez Peezy.
Quote schmote, there's no cheaper way. Only fails if recipient is not near one.

Yes. They are.

But they'll ship your stuff from store-to-store.

Thanks all. Seems reasonable. Will get a quote from them. Then work on trying to get the seller to help box it up.. long shot at a reasonable $.

Honestly they don't need to do any crating or boxing. Just take the items to Fastenal and they do the rest. No extra charges for palleting or shrink wrapping. Those items can't run more than a hundred bux store to store. A series windshield was $50 with glass in it.
