There was a humourous article on this a few years ago. Basically it explained that the reasoning was to improve safety. The article then went and provided the statistics showing that the rate of collisions and injuries for (+15 year) imported vehicles was substantially lower than the general population.

For those seriously looking to change the rules, that would be my first stop. Find the insurance statistics. I can guarantee that they will show a much lower claim rate on these 25 year old imported vehicles.
Yeah! And when we're done with the import laws, let's get the metric system adopted once and for all! I'm tired of needing 2 tool sets. And when that's done, let's rename footbal "Pigball", and then we can throw out our stupid unilateral term "soccer". It's stupid. I hate being a loner all the time in this little world.

If I'm going to make a stand, it's on eating french fries with a fork. That's just stupid.

I'm not sure what you think happens in Canada, but the metric system is only half ass adopted here.... We use the word soccer and I've never heard of anyone eating fries with a fork other than mainland Europe.

You are missing the point. I'm asking what is meant by "original configuration"? THAT is not clear. If it is simply matching the equipment shown on the VIN and the frame is original, okay, it is understood. If it means that other parts must be original, then which specific ones?

VINs were reused, are odd, and sometimes not accurately catalogued. I deal with this daily. Some older VINs actually show up as 07+ in Microcat.

I'm talking about getting on same page as rest of world, not Canada. And yes, I was referring to Europe when I mentioned the fork. Glad we're on same page there.

You only have yourself to blame when Canadians travel abroad and people ask you "Are you American?". Don't despair, at least it's obvious you're not from Jersey.

PS, you can have you're Bieber back. We're done with it.

Have you looked at the six VINs in question. They seem pretty damn clear to me.

I'd say you are missing the point.."original configuration is quite clear" the way it left the factory... You are over analyzing the fact that the .gov doesn't give a shit that the POS you want has had it frame swapped because the original owner drove thru the ocean to Ireland and back while using the seats a flotation device. All they care about is if it's the same as it left factory, regardless of how it was used and abused and if the components are worn out.

Silly, yes

Yes, I've looked at all the vins on the list, some showed as 07-on in MC.

Some of those vehicles are also nowhere close to original, which is great news for those worried about engine swaps.

Well.... the fish bait, I think they called it "smoked meat" without telling what kind, was extra. Normal poutine is just fries, cheese, and gravy. I won't lie it was very good.... and then on two block walk back to the hotel, I stopped at all 31 Tim Horton's that I passed.

food for thought since you guys are splitting hairs and sniping @ the laws.

We have a DOT Chief Counsel's published "longstanding tradition" opinion letter that an original chassis can be completely re-bodied with a new body.
Explain or come up with a rationale for me that doesn't completely contradict their current enforcement that "a left hand drive conversion is considered VIN tampering as the brake booster is moved from one side of the truck to the other". How is one not moving the same brake booster if a completely new body is installed ?
My head spins like Beetlejuice's everytime I have to deal with these guys.
