Civil Forfeiture is essentially the government stealing from you and hoping they can make it stand up in court. None of the owners of these vehicles committed any crime. None were afforded any form of due process.
The warrant categorizes the vehicles as contraband based on some ancient but enforceable laws, the rub here is a good portion of the data provided to categorize them as contraband and get the seizure warrant signed was false.
How you can see any of this through rose colored glasses, I can't understand. You and I are on opposite sides of a vast gulf again on this one.

On the surveillance issue, these weren't people who were even suspected of any crime. They were watched @ home, followed to work, their extended family's were watched as well. Yeah just that they were surveilled and intelligence gathered on them pisses me off. These are DHS agents. As an aside, DHS is in a very highly publicized financial crush and yet this is how they choose to spend what they have, as opposed to the imminent issues they are receiving pressures to remedy ?
This was no small expenditure operation. These trucks were Nantucket to California and Upstate NY to Florida, ie nationwide.
Bingo. Bigger issues at stake here. This Land Rover issue is a symptom of a sickness. People always say, "Well, I've done nothing wrong, I have nothing to worry about." Or, "It won't affect me." Guess what, it just jumped the lines into our community in a big way. And the fact that you are reading this thread means it is starting to affect you as well.

The Discovery was introduced in '89; if I remember correctly, that coincided w/ the introduction of the Defender name, too...

That DOT is enforcing a different standard through US Customs than what is published by EPA is well known and has been hashed out here many times.

If Will pushes it, perhaps we can align enforcement with the law .

Why what's the big deal? If the speed limit is 65, and they are ticketing people for going 64 I say good for them!

Joking.

It is the 1990 model year which usually shows up before the end of the 1989 calendar year.

This is because they chose to call the Disco a Land Rover. Marketing didn't want to have land Rovers and Land Rover Discovery. So they made up a model name to give to the Ninety, One Ten and One twenty seven.

They did the same thing when the One Ten was introduced. Suddenly the Land Rover was a Series Land Rover. before then they were just referred to as Land Rovers and not "Series Land Rovers" Personally I think they should have just called the early coilers Series IV.

What's become of us? We're debating everything like too many rats that have ran out of food.

This is what we are like with any topic

I'm so confused. I'm going to start drinking rum, no scotch. F' it, I'm mixing them both in a new drink I call "Swappertunity"
I have read your post and I see only one solution for you. You need some Federally regulated Prozac or a good dose of regulatory pot. I am not sure if it should be high on TCH or CBD, but if you can get as high as the federal "regulatory Muppets" who started this mess then you will both be high and at a state of greater peace with each other

I was teaching a merit badge class for my Boy Scout Troop last night and one of the scouts told me that a co-worker of his father here in Denver had his truck seized. Didn't know if that was anyone on here.

What if one was interested in purchasing this Rover that's currently on ebay. How would you proceed with the due diligence to determine if it is a "legal" truck.

This thread is not to be a catch-all for any and all import talk. I know you're not the first, but it's getting old. Please post your question in the appropriate section and start a new thread if need be.

Is CBP moderating the forum now?

Heard today they got a red 110 in San Antonio. So TX is not immune yet. Raided swat style.

I am guessing it was the 110 from Thornton that was on the list.

For the love of Solihull, can we move this thread into the Pit yet? I'm already in the back room wearing my member's only green smoking jacket and the ice is melting in my scotch.
