home automation

Non-rover related but there was some discussion about a Nest thermostat here recently and I thought I'd create a thread about the topic. (I did search...lol)

I'm looking at Home Automation options and have been reading about Wink. I'm looking specifically at the August deadbolt lock (which may not be wink compatible), MyQ garage opener and Lutron shades.

Anyone care to share first-hand experience? Thanks!

I have some friends that use Smartthings (SmartThings | Life Like Never Before) for home automation including door deadbolts, garage doors, lights, etc.. It works with Z-wave compatible devices and other types as well.

Thanks Ryan, I haven't heard about SmartThings before - it looks more versatile than Wink. I'll review what they have.

Jeff, is the wifi crockpot siri or cortana compatible? LOL

Have you checked Smarthome.com? I have my wish list for them, as soon as the last bit of Spackle is completed I will start the install. Some of the items that I am interested are:

Water sensor
Freezer sensor (2)
Motion sensors
2 Wifi Thermostats
Outdoor camera's

They will beat other prices if you email them.

Thanks for the reference. I would be interested in a system that would send a text (or email) should the motion sensor(s) be activated within a set window of time. Is this possible without recurring fee? I am not a fan service contracts or subscriptions.

No contracts with this place. It will send you a text if any of the sensors trip as long as your wifi is up and running. The camera will also take a pic and text it to you as well. Do not just buy a kit and checkout, email them and ask them for a "package" price and that you are shopping around. They will hook you up.
