Holy Crap My D90 Caught Fire Yesterday!

So I was in the garage yesterday making some adjustments to the Rover. As I was on a step-stool rocking the Rover back and forth to adjust my roof rack I heard a "spritz spritz" like the sounds of a spray can. I jumped down and ran to the other side of the vehicle to figure out how a can of spray paint ended up under the Rover. All is see is the orange glow of flames coming from underneath!!!

I roll under it to find that my ARB compressor harness worked loose and had fallen on top of the parking brake drum. The drum wore a hole in the harness and the rocking back and forth shorted out the wires! I burned about a 6" section of wire. Of course the fuse by the compressor blew, but there isn't one closer to the battery.

Anyway, no serious damage to the Rover, but my Rover's life flashed before my eyes.

WOW! That's a first. Glad you caught it!

I was expecting to hear a story of an oil line fire.... thank goodness it wasn't any more serious.

Yeah, the orange glow of flames was just 6" of rubber and electrical tape, but with the bottom of my Rover cleverly covered in "protective" gear oil, the fire could have spread if I wasn't there.

The funny thing was when the wife asked me if it could have caught fire while we were driving the other day, I was like, "oh no, of course not!"

Mmh, not sure I'd trust a truck that catches fire so easily. Especially since it sounds like it's had some shoddy work done on it. I'll give you $100 no questions asked

$5 each? LOL

Follow-up Post:

In case anyone thinks otherwise, I'm kidding. I can laugh about it after getting away with two close calls, one transmission fluid and one oil fires. That's why I keep 2 fire extinguishers within reach of the driver and a bag of marshmallows within reach of the back door (plan B)

Not very exciting, but here's a pic of what's left of the section of ARB harness that fried.

Holy cow, ain't that the truth!

You guys don't know that the previous owner tried to buy it back from me last December. He even gave me a non-refundable $2k deposit, which he lost when he backed out of the deal. My D-90 got some new parts!
