Has Anyone Seen My Rover?

I know its highly unlikely but if anyone has seen this truck around or happens to own it now please let me know: 1959 Series II soft top, UK plate 411 GRO. It had a distinctive Land Rover sticker on the windshield that doubled as a sun visor. Bought this gem back in 1992 and really wish I still had it. Sold it in 2002 to a Land Rover dealer somewhere near Boston who, Im told, used it as a prop outside the showroom, set up on some boulders.

While I appreciate all the fancy modern technological stuff in my Defender like seat belts, heat, head lights that dont randomly shut off while driving at night, etc. I really miss this truck. If you happen to have come across it please let me know, I have not seen it in almost 15 years and would love to know where it ended up.

No - unfortunately I can't find any old records that show the VIN. Vermont does not title cars older than 15 years so there is no title record. The only things that had the VIN was the registration and the bills of sale which I no longer have.

too old for carfax. find a cop and have him run the vin from an old registration card. or call your insurance person and see if the can dig into your file.

Any old insurance policies still lying around? They always have vins.

Insurance records is a great idea! I have always used USAA and although I tossed that policy binder over 10 years ago I bet USAA is more organized than me. I am going to call them right now to find out.

USAA had the VIN record. Anyone know how to do anything with it other than put it into CalVin? I don't see any harm in mentioning the VIN here: 141903307. I had forgotten that they didn't use letters in their Vin's back then.

Sure it is 141903307 and not 144?

Mine is a 1959 build ending in 3312. If the 1 is a typo ours would have been practically brothers. Kind of sorry I ran across this. Have been giving a lot of thought to selling mine on. Just don't use it enough...spend more time getting it ready for its annual inspection.

Picture is a still from Band Of Horses Knock Knock video.

http://www.lrfaq.org/Series/FAQ.S.Ch...bers.type.html
This says a VIN beginning 141 would have been Home Country RHD.

LOL! Yup, but the picture of his shows a LHD with a Brit plate. Which might just be decoration or it is a conversion. Or does the VIN actually start 144 and the 1 is a typo?
Thanks for clearing that up! LOL!

Mine was a LHD conversion done by an importer in Middletown R.I. I forget the guys name but he would bring in 3 or 4 at a time and convert them. This was back in the day when you had to scour Hemmings Motor News to find Rovers - no Ebay or Craigslist.
Andrew, I hope you keep yours. I have had a half dozen or so Rovers since that 59 and it was the best of them all. I would love to track it down and see how it looks now. Somehow the chassis never had a spot of rust so I hope it is still running strong.

Andrew P: a 59 was listed on Craigs List in Cali today. Perhaps this one is the true sister to yours because it appears to be an original LHD (with a decorative UK plate?). It looks like the person selling has 2 of them. 1959 vintage Series II Land Rover
Listing price is $14.5. Yours looks nicer in the dark green (was it Coniston back then?). I think I sold mine for $10 back in 2002 so about the same with inflation.
I have tried to do some VIN searching for my old one but have not come up with anything.
