Harbor Freight Winches

Got an e-mail from Harbor Freight with a link to Off-Road magazines review of their winches. (http://www.off-roadweb.com/tech/1112...#ixzz1bFbjF8Qa ). Harbor Freight sells the 9000lb and 12000lb winches for unbelievably low prices (you can also get a 20% off coupon in tons of magazines like 4-wheeler or just ask me, I have spares). The 9000lb winch with coupon is $280 and the 12000lb would be about $400.

At those prices, I may add one onto my Disco.

they are no name ramseys, I have had the 8k on my 87range for nearly 10 yrs with out issues and soon to add a 10k to my 95lwb.
they are slow loaded or unloaded but torqy as hell.
with my 87 and its 8k I pulled a blazer k5 up a 15 ft muddy ravine single line (rescued) after he lost control on a wet patch and fell in, I used a dot truck as an anchor (country road many happened to have stopped including by happenstance the state truck.
the winch moaned and made all kinds of noises but made a believer out of me by putting that k5 back on the tarmack.
since then I have attempted to kill it with out sucess.
my issue is, what about when it fails, would it cost me more to repair than to replace?... only time will tell.

IIRC they also offer a lifetime warranty for like 50 bucks. I had the 8k on my TJ for 5yrs with tons of abuse and no issues at all. For the price you can't beat it. Would recommend mounting the solenoids under the hood or in the seat box. Would recommend that for any non water-proof solenoids.
