Thanks folks! I appreciate the good wishes. I have currently 2 multi-week trips planned for 2014. More if I can scrape up the funds.

I am currently spending a lot of time writing a book on vehicle overlanding in North America. I decided to make it more of a why-to instead of a how-to. A how-to tells you to do this and how to do that then provides long gear lists without giving you much of an understanding as to why you want to buy that piece of gear. A why-to tells you why doing this is a good idea and doing that might not be quite so good. I figure if you understand the why of something you will be more apt to be able to make your best how-to decision when faced with something not spelled out in a how-to book. Of course there are a few bits of gear that really stand out that I recommend but I try to explain why I recommend a certain product.

SO I think this year I'm more apt to drive to a nice place to camp and spend a couple days writing before moving off to the next place to camp and write. It is easier to write about traveling while I am traveling

Right now I'm in reasonable health but the truck needs a new set of tie rod ends and an alignment before it is allowed out of town. Also one of my freewheel hubs very recently broke in a way that allows hub oil to freely flow out and of course Superwinch LR hubs are now NLA and unsupported with parts.

I have decided to go with fixed drive flanges up front. I have yet to have a pair of freewheel hubs that do not weep oil. The order goes out tomorrow to Hi-TOUGH Engineering Pty Ltd in Australia for a pair of 24 spline front hubs. I have a pair on the rear and have been very happy with them over the years. These flanges are made from high tensile 4140 bar and have a tensile stress of approx 60 Tons/ sq inch. The Terra Firma "heavy duty" flanges look line the ones I am ordering but have a Rockwell C hardness of only 25, which I think makes them softer than genuine LR drive flanges. Unfortunately they seem to be fooling a lot of people with their look alike flange that are not function alike.

Anyway, today starts a new year for me and two weeks from now my Land Rover and I will be entering our 37th year together and hopefully in another couple weeks we will be back on the trails with fresh tie rod ends and new front drive flanges.

Thanks again for your birthday wishes
