Grey market D-110 questions

I have come across a 2002 D-110 crew cab that I really like. I have not paid attention to the grey market stuff because I did not want to mess with the hassle of registering or worrying if the DOT will revoke the registration.

This D-110 has been registered as a 1978 series 109 and currently has a valid Georgia registration and plate. I have been assured from the seller that is would not be a problem to register in Utah since it has already been registered in Georgia.

What is the consensus of the group on something like this? Should I stay away from it or would it be legal to have something like this and register it to daily drive? How would insuring this vehicle be?

Gorgeous ( except the wheels ), will all depend if the price is right , cause at the end of the day it is brought in as a Series not a Defender.

I am sure he is. Get a contract written up that the sale depends on you getting a reg and insurance. My guess is not but who knows. In short it is a vin swap.

Looks like the one lrnasd90 built.

I missed out on this one years ago. I thought it went to IN or OH. Guy up there owned an offroad park. That guy sold it around 26k I thought, which is when I missed it by 2-3 hrs. I thought it was titled as a 74 back then. I forget. Anyways, beautiful.

I like the wheels. It has the "pimp my ride" urban rambo look to it.

The marshmellow seat covers are a deal breaker. It's not safe to eat and drive while sitting on your food.

Run the VIN or have it inspected by the FEDS, seriously. You want to verify you will not have problems down the line with that much $$ invested in a truck.

Check out ECR's website on importing and what is required.

Unless that truck IS a 1984 like they state on their website and the REAL VIN proves it, I'd stay far far away. The FEDS do not take VIN swaps lightly.

I am not trying to get Red Mountain Rovers in trouble at all as I certainly don't think they did a VIN swap or anything, but be really careful with that kind of truck. A registration, State inspection and even a "legit" title in a *STATE* really mean nothing if that is a VIN swapped, pieced together, with no CLEAR trail that is is really an older truck.

Just my .02 as I have been down these roads.

Doug

Don't worry, the wheels are on there way to my house anyway He has since swapped them with a set of wolfs and 255/85/16 muds. I am not going to get into the whole title part, but this is a sick freaking truck.
