Greenland MIA Recovery Expedition

Fellow Defender Enthusiasts,

I rarely cast a wide net with my post, but in this case it is warranted. As some of you know I have been working with John (seriesgarage) another Defender Source member for a few years on a project to locate and repatriate 3 missing America war heroes in Greenland. To keep the mission alive 4 team members including myself have banded together to form Global Exploration and Recovery. Our is plan to return to the icecap this summer for a few weeks to conduct an extensive ground penetrating radar search to pin point the exact location of the crash site. The link below is to our funding campaign which has some nice perks donated from a few of our generous sponsors. Please take a few minutes to visit the site to learn more. If you can help that is great, but at the very least please share with anyone you can think of as we need as much support as possible to bring these heroes home!

Thank you,
Frank

I wanted to let everyone in the D90 forums know that I've appreciated their support over the years of my passion for Land Rover's. I'm thankful to have a place where I can spread support for a project like this that we're working on. Lets bring these men home to their families and put this piece of history to rest. Please spread the word far and wide.

LT John A. Pritchard, USCG

John had the idea of taking his J2F-4 Grumman Duck aircraft and landing on the Greenland icecap to rescue crewmen from a downed B17. It was the first time anyone had landed a plane on the Greenland icecap.

RM1/c Benjamin A. Bottoms, USCG

As the radioman, Bottoms would accompany the pilot, Lt. John A. Pritchard, of the cutter’s plane on the hazardous rescue flight. Though no one ever before had successfully landed a plane on the ice cap, the two men were confident that the rescue could be accomplished.

Nancy Pritchard, the younger sister of Duck pilot Lt. John Pritchard, is an enthusiastic supporter of the groupís work. She has always admired the bravery and ...selflessness her brother showed in rescuing his fellow countrymen in Greenland. Her entire life she has wanted to see him come home.

As we spend time with family and friends this holiday weekend let’s not forget those Service members who never made it home. John Pritchard and Benjamin Bottoms never hesitated when called to respond to an Army B-17 that crashed into the Greenland icecap. Their heroism in the face of extreme adversity exemplifies one of the greatest examples of why Memorial Day is celebrated in our country. Please help us honor John Pritchard, Benjamin Bottoms and Loren Howarth by supporting our efforts to bring these great American heroes home!
