I used to live in Kemah, TX... happy I'm not there now.

My sister just outside Galveston evacuated to our place in Austin. Took 6.5 hours to do a drive that normally takes 3 hours. I might be getting to drive home with them hauling chainsaws and stuff in the Rover to cut our way to their house if needed. Their place is possibly going to get a bit wet it appears depending on the storm surge.

From how they're describing the surge, coastal TX may look like MS post-Katrina. 20 feet of water plus wave action in parts should deter anyone from staying behind.

We're still on generator power from Gustav, but we weren't washed away.

One of my best friends and hunting buddies is a Judge who lives 150 yards from the beach on Galveston Island. Galveston Island is the projected point of landfall. I think the loss of my friends home is a foregone conclusion at this point. Hope he's in tight with his insurance bookie.

Fortunately he has a Mooney and has already flown over to a mutual friends place in BR Lousianna.

My sister has been told to stay away. She still has no idea how bad it is at her place other than 'wet'. Guess we'll find out in a few days.

93% of Entergy customers are still without power. Fortunately we are one of the few that already got it back. Lots of damage here in Montgomery County (northern suburban county of Houston). Trees everywhere - we had to cut our way out of the neighborhood on Saturday afternoon. Felt like we were at a cookoff at night - generators running everywhere and the smell of bbq (that was the positive part!). Met a bunch of neighbors. Had to drive 100 miles to refuel.
