Garmin Navigon for Ipad?

I plan to install a GPS app for the Ipad. This will be used for street navigation only. Does anybody have any experiance with the Navigon?

Yeah, I just F-Ed that up. It's an iPad 2. I bought the full version. iTunes should have a note when buying apps that says this won't work.

I think Shep circumvented this with a wifi hotspot from his iPhone to the iPad. Hoping he chimes in.

Great idea, I will go that route. I also read that some people jail break the IPhone to create a hotspot, but then you are relying on two I devices and service to make it work. I think a combination of the Bluetooth and a hotspot will make a great combination.

They only work will a continuous data connection. Paid, download maps allow you to use them anywhere and don't use up you cell data.

Yes, so it does not have a GPS. You will need an external one. I like the Garmin GLO, but there are cheaper options.

Tom - If you have an iPhone, go into Settings/Personal Hotspot and turn it on. That will create a Wi-Fi hotspot and then you can just connect to that from your iPad in the Wi-Fi setting. You might have to have an appropriate data plan with your carrier though.

You won't need a GPS app, just use either the free Apple Maps or Google Maps apps. They both have turn by turn directions.

I ordered the GPS from West Marine. I will pick it up Tuesday. Should be an interesting device. The tech on the phone said the combination of the glo GPS and software is a good match and should work flawlessly. Next will be the iPad mount for the truck.

Tom,

let me know when you are in town if you want to Jailbreak and install MyWi hotspot ( I believe is 20.00 donation )

WARNING !!! you have to be on IOS 6.12 and under to be un-tethered ( meaning no need to re-JB if you run out of battery

DISCLAIMER: I know nothing about this, I just read on the internet :-)

Likely your provider will detect this and encourage you to take their legit offering ... This is especially true for AT&T

I run the RAM iPad mount ( the model compatible for the iPad in my otter box defender case) and its outstanding. Only complaint is the stock arm off of the suction cup is a little short, just have not ordered the longer one yet. The suction cup mount is really well done, pretty solid.

I picked up the Garmin GPS last night, it hooked up to the IPAD. The GPS works great. Now I need to work on the mounting and wiring.
