G-Wagon & Defender Owners

Random topic as most are...

I noticed there are a few members on this board that are also G-Wagon owners and are posting on other forums so I wanted to see if that population is larger than I think it is. Feel free to reveal yourself.

If the interiors weren't so fugly I might consider a 300GD. Plaid was never in, and the whole dash looks like something Mitsubishi was using in the Pajero...

Pajero:

I've been sneak looking for one of those older convertible G's. Although I'm sure my wife would shoot me.....need to get 90 completely sorted first tho...

In fact there is a You Tube video with a G Wagon and a 110 climbing the same hill....interesting to watch...

I never thought too much about them since I didn't have a favorable opinion of them as the IFAV for the Marine Corps (my experience with them aboard ship was that they were broken down, a lot, which is normal on the boat for anything but they were acutely broken).

That said they are all over the place here...albeit almost always the AMG spec versions. This shot from this morning cracks me up, this is literally a courtesy vehicle at the Emirates Palace. Bear in mind it is like the 2nd most expensive hotel in the world, and there is a gold dispensing ATM in the lobby, so it shouldn't be a shock...

Almost bought a G500 once. Picked up a Range Rover instead.

Should have bought the Mercedes.

Oh well.

I was at the Mercedes dealer last week to pick up my wife's car.

The service guy had pictures of the G-Wagon in his office and we got talking. He told me that he advises his customers not to buy it because they will be disappointed and blame him. The G-Wagon is made from left over parts, rides awful and is unreliable.

Wow, just like a Land Rover. I got to get me one of those.

How about a demolition derby? Land Rover versus G-Wagon. We could call it a replay of WWII. In the trenches with your trucks we could throw in a HumVee as well just to make it interesting.

What I really want is an MWrap. Christmas is coming!

I like an 08 + because of the back up camera and updated instrument cluster. Not big things but rarely a huge price difference. They started getting fancy in 09 with the air cooled seats and junk.

I thought G Wagens were superior to all others and were supposed to last 1000 years?

Let's get a Fiat and FJ into this thread, and then have them all take turns towing a Renault around.

The one Mercedes I had left me with a bad taste.
And the large number of MB that I see on the side of the road or being towed I can't see owning another one.
At least neither of my Rovers have ever left me on the road. Not until I converted to the diesel anyway.

I bought one of the Europa ones. Loved it. 4 doors back when no D110s were being shipped over. Smooth ride. In the end, it was too nice for my life style of outdoor activities and trips to Home Depot.
