OK well since we're really bringing on the competition, I've revised my original concept with a flashy NJ airsrpay paint job. The T-rex edition will be even more desirable.

Add the iconic skylights to the rear roof and we'll be very close to acceptable. I'd actually be about willing to buy that.

I can understand why LR is using existing platform archetecture for the chassis. Sad that it will be IFS and probably not body on frame. And I can understand why they mellowed out the classic Defender traits to a low step in height, huge wheels, wavy sides. Most "normal" people that ride in my 90 always have that "WTF?" look when getting in or out and have to use the sliders and some umphh (but funny my 5 year old can climb in, in record time). Today's drivers want easy in and out, rugged looks without rugged "comfort" and convienance, convienance, convienance.

And from what I've driven in my sis-in-law's LR4 and seen with dchapman's wife's LR3 at Rausch it seems LR can still make a capable vehicle off road and especially on road. Hopefully they will make this new Defender able to run some trails in stock form. I am in the minority but from the side view and with some mods, this new one could look pretty good. The era of the classic Defender will be done but who give a shit - there should be enough D90 and D110 and parts out there for me to drive one until I can't drive anymore.

A couple of notes to Land Rover:

- If you want to grab any of Jeep's market share, you will need to release a 4 door ST version. Look at what is driven in your current NAS D90 owner areas (Rumson/Fair Haven, NJ and Nantucket, MA to name a couple) and you will find more 4 door Jeep JK's than Disco's (2, 3, & 4s) and Range Rovers combined.

- Use the Camel Trophy naming/brand/etc to give a big FU to the Rubican. Any Rover head I've seen sweats anything CT. Make a Camel Trophy version with skinny 35"s on steelies, winch, rack, diesel, sliders, lockers etc. Joint up with ARB, Bilstein, Mantec, etc for some gear that works. Make 500 or so You will loose money on them but think of the cool ads you could make and you'll have thumbs up from any salty person with a "Lucas or Die" t-shirt.

A Facebook Group has been created called "We All Hate the new DC100". I plagiarized one of the photos from here to post there.

Horrible!!! Perhaps the brand will be dissected with the current version being available for military and police? I can't imagine this KIA-Rover being used in combat.

Wow, I've had no internet for a couple weeks as I've been moving! I was so excited to open this thread. Now that I've seen the pic, I will pass. It looks like all the other 20K small SUV's on the market. I think lots of folks will buy this just no one on here. It's to bad they missed the mark. Even my LR4 looks like a LR and it's new. They could have done this right.

I am curious to see up close pics from the autoshow. Based on regulations the current truck had to go. The side pic is a terrible drawing. Not sure why they released it.

That is just awful.
Was it designed in India or the UK?
I'm going to cry myself to sleep now.

In a way Defender owners should be glad the D100 looks the way it does because it bears absolutely no resemblence to the Defender and Series trucks. That's far better, imho, than a badly tweaked "Defender" cobbled together to meet current regulations and market demands. Instead there's just one more upscale SUV for the shopping malls.

That begs the question as to why it's needed then. How does it differ from the other offerings designed for the upscale SUV market like the whole LR2/3/4 range we already have?

I agree.

I would just rather they do nothing then make something like this.

Only Tata knows. I'm sure it's part of their marketing plan which involves the entire lineup.
These days it seems there can never be enough suvs and "crossovers". What sense that makes when most of these 4wd vehicles only seem to go off roading when it's unintentional, I don't know.

I *suspect* they're reviewing the Toyota SUV line and thinking that there's still room for multiple overlapping-use vehicles, including a 4x4-esque model (and the FJ isn't hasn't been shot dead yet, so they can justify in their business cases that there's a specific niche market w/competition).

I'm of the same opinion - just close it all down and sell customized versions to known government buyers where safety requirements are less stringent and business is guaranteed. I wish that there was an opportunity for a niche bespoke 4x4 division, where the heritage would be retained, but it's gotta be cost-prohibitive.
