Frowned upon?

I just realized posting a non land rover vehicle in the registry may be frowned upon.
Didn't even think about it until I starting looking and didn't see anyone with any other vehicles on here.
Is this frowned upon?
Should I remove it?
Should this be a land rover only forum?

That Pinzgauer pic doesn't look like it was taken in NJ. Where do you keep it?

I say you can post the Pinz in the registry if you post more pics of the 130!

BTW, What's the 'cold weather package' on a 130?

The registry should only be for NAS Defenders.

Pinz looks pretty bad ass!

I actually brought up a similar topic with the mod/admin team but I was suggesting we re-tool the Registry to dial it in for Defenders only. Here is the post I made:
Quote:
There is one major flaw with the Registry system and that is the fact that the input fields are text boxes instead of drop down lists. People type in things differently and that means the data in the database is "dirty" and needs to be cleaned up every so often. An example of this is people do the following:

Example A:
Year: '94
Model: NAS D90

Example B:
Year: 1994
Model: Defender 90

In order to dial in the registry and make sure the data is as clean as possible, I think we should make the text fields drop downs. This way people have to pick the year, model and then options that were available for that year/model (for example, NAS, engine, etc).

Another thing the drop downs would prevent is the entry of non Defenders into the system. It's not that big of an issue but this Registry was intended to be a database of Defenders, not Discos or Rovers. My personal opinion is that we should focus on Defenders and purge out any non-Defenders to keep the database as clean as possible.

What are your thoughts on cleaning out the other models and using drop downs instead of text fields to ensure we have the cleanest database possible?
There was some initial caution about this and I followed up with the following:
Quote:
We can add unlimited options to the system. So if someone requested we add 300tdi we can just add that to the list of options. I forgot to mention the options would be shown as check boxes so people could mix and match to select what ever they have on their trucks. If we do it through check boxes instead of free form we will be able to show all the 1994 Defenders which have auto transmission or Defender SW which have 300tdi engines. The important part is that we change from free form typing to providing more structured input so we can sort and filter later as needed. For example, someone might type "300tdi" the next could be "300 tdi" (note the space between) and another could be "300 Turbo Diesel". We can still have space for people to free form type in other details about their trucks but if we can account for the majority of options via check boxes that would go a long way in having a great database.

As for taking away the non-Defenders, there are only 9 of them added via 8 members.
http://www.defendersource.com/forum/...&searchid=1391
I don't think it would upset them too much if this was made a Defender/Series only database. If we think out 5 to 10 years from now having a rock solid database of trucks will be an amazing resource to the community. If it means we can make a better database by focusing on Defender/Series only, I think it's worth it in the long run.
So what do you all think?

As one of the non-defenders guys on here (and in the registry) I have no issues with the idea of it being narrowed down as it is your (collectively) site for Defenders. When you parse it out I'm not sure it makes sense to include Series trucks in it unless you're going to include 90/110's and non-NAS Defenders too.

Then the discussion could have a counter-argument that points out that the only exclusivity to the Defender market in North America was the limited #'s, if you opened it up to Series and non NAS trucks it would be like having a Disco registry as the #'s aren't all that exclusive once you leave America. (When the begs the question why not have RRC's and Discos since they are coil sprung and share many of the same parts).

Gotta draw a line somewhere. Were it me I'd make a NAS Defender registry.
That's my .02....

I would be fine with a pic of his defender sitting next to the pinz in his registry.

I just really like the registry as it allows me to actually see what some of the members trucks look like, as most members here rarely post pictures of their own trucks. I think it should be of all 'the land rover' S1-Defender.

The Pinz is kosher in my book. Plus, you've got a badass 130...so that gives you an extra free pass. Is that the one from RMR? What size rubber is on it? Are those 255s?

And I say squash the idea of making it a NAS only registry!

Could someone please explain the rationale for making the registry exclusive to NAS only Defenders, versus all Defenders? I get it, NAS Defenders are exclusive. Good for you that own them. You could still add a filter to the registry to sort the data to show ROW vs UK vs NAS trucks. I think we'd stand to lose a lot of good data on ROW trucks for the sake of homogenizing the registry to the NAS only club.

i have no idea why you would make this a NAS only registry and lose all the great people and trucks that belong to the NON NAS community

I don't get the NAS 90 furor. I started with one of them and evolved to the better stuff.
