eBay Motors: Land Rover : Defender (item 140154162514 end time Sep-09-07 19:39:06 PDT)

I was checking out the vehicle as it is no reserve - it is a mexican 90 and would explain why I could not find it's NAS # . I called the guy and he said it has a clear TX title and won't be a problem to title but I wouldn't risk it.

I guess when it crossed the border it lost about 100,000 miles.

Nice looking truck. Why did he take a picture of each tire but no good photos of the engine bay to see that carb set up?

Looks like this is happening pretty often. I was contacted recently by a guy who bought one like this and decoding the vin showed it as a '94 tdi RHD. It is now a V8 from a disco (carb'd) but still has the tdi fenders and other telltale signs. Nicely done though.

Notice the ad never says NAS, nor that it was imported to the US in 1994

Anyone else notice the mismatched coniston green trans tunnel section on the interior that does not match the BRG ext. which, if I'm not mistaking only was available on '97s

Nice looking truck though, for the right price I'd still pick it up

Hmmm, nope, not a US truck in any form at all. If you call him, be prepared....

No rear side marker lights;
Teenie, Tiny rear lights;
Unusual rollcage;
Strange speaker locations;
Mismatched tunnel cover;
Half-Cab lower bulkhead;
Carbureted engine;
Manual transmission style brake pedal;
Fuel tank in different place;
UK style liscense plate hole pattern;
Antenna on wrong side;
Different badges;

I personally like the plated over snorkle hole on the passenger side fender. Good luck getting this thing to pass an inspection.

The transfer case knob looks like the leather ones that are found on the Borg Warners...

The vin # is coming back as a '91... That thing looks like its made out of a bunch of scraps from different trucks.

I saw this same truck listed for sale a few years back. I believe at the time it was in UT. Nice truck, but definitely not a factory build. I ditto the scrap build.

Check out the steering wheel. Looks like an old style RR wheel. That is an odd animal. Aside from the weirdness, good looking truck though???

I agree, aesthetically, it is a VERY nice looking truck. Just not a LEGAL truck it doesn't appear. Whoever did the spray-on lining went a LITTLE crazy though. Looks like the engine compartment got it too.

Oh, and some more for the list.
Wierd spot for the hand throttle;
not sure what the center panel knobs are;
no soft-top snaps or rails;
"V8" not "V8i";
non-stock transmission cooler;
I DO like that rear-view mirror mount;
where is the hood release?

And what is that leaf-spring looking thing in front of the rear tires? The front seems to have coils, but that flat bar....???? Can't spot any sways either.

Has anyone checked out the price lately. I really hope it is a joke.

Also look at the pics of the back. Is the capping between the hardtop and body galvanized?

Yeah, I noticed the capping too...looks kind of like it is flat black to me. Nice looking truck, but I would only buy it for about 1/2 the going rate for a true NAS 90. $24k is obscene for that thing!

$24k now? At $10,000 it was amusing, at $24,000 somebody is going to get seriously ripped off. God forbid they try to register it in New Jersey or California, they'll probably have it confiscated.

I wonder if the 10 or so people bidding on this truck know that it doesnt meet DOT or EPA rules.

If they where in an accident the insurance company doesnt have to cover it because it is not a legal truck.

Its a nice truck but for the cage that goes thru the front fenders, I dont like that look.

$31,700 final sale.

I can't believe somebody got that much for a grey-market, fake title, emissions failure of a truck. New owners is going to have problems with it when it gets to Florida. Can't believe e-bay let it sell.
