I think this thing was for sale on craigslist about 6-8 months ago for $22,500.

I knew I saw this somewhere. On Philadelphia Craigslist.

http://philadelphia.craigslist.org/car/384681696.html

22,500 or best offer.

Someone made a quick 10k on this shady Defender

Not yet they didn't!

After a wild abusive phone call from the seller I obviously didn't buy the put together truck. I found it in the last few minutes of the auction and thought it was maybe a POE unit. Stuart Carpenter (Copley Motorcars) helped me see the issues the next morning.

Glad to hear you didn't buy it. I had contacted e-bay regarding it, with almost 4 days left in the auction, but I guess they didn't follow up. That got me a bit peeved, considering how fast they are to pull auctions in other categories.

Interesting to see the craigslist version of what the truck is. Much more honest, and informative, which just accentuates the fraud of the e-bay seller.

Good for you Scott! You would have had a mess on your hands. Now, take that $ and go buy a real one! You will not regret it. I am sure Stewart can hook you up

Things I will not say.

Most of the comments from the seller were things I quit saying 30 years ago to even the worst people I met. He blamed me because I should have known what it was and it also was my responsibility to come and look at it before bidding. I shared with him that I would never have bid if he had described it correctly. After a few final curse words at the top of his lungs he hung up. Then he called back and told me he was comming to Florida to see me and to "watch this, here we go, let's see how you like it, I just bid on your boat, I'm going to ruin your auction, I just bid $30,000" I was watching my auction and sure enough he bid $30,000. I simply cancelled the bid. After sharing with him the knowledge of it being in this country as a 1994 grey market vehicle it might be best to just leave me alone. I of course explained that I would never bid on any of his auctions again.

Scott

Scott,
Welcome to the forum. Don't sweat it, sounds like the guy will get what he deserves. The good news for you is that the guys here are helpful people and we have a better knowledge base about these trucks than anyone out there. This site is full of all the info you'll need to find a good 90. I'm just glad you were smart enough to do some homework before buying. The next guy probably won't be so lucky.

guys, i was looking at this truck in december of 2005 from a used car dealer. he said i could have for 19500. he said he bought a couple from a guy named abraham jacobson po box 241 fountain green utah 84632. i have a fax of the title when it i was interested in it. 1994 with zero miles, utah title. the dealer, 5 star motors(kansas). it's the same truck...same vin. it has been bought ans sold a couple time and put on ebay a few months back by 2 brothers. i think they sold it around 20k. i sent this seller an email but he never responded. i can not beleive he sold it for that kind of money. wow!
