Ford

Just a quick thought. Considering that Ford is having all sorts of issues, layoffs, managment and direction changes, do you think that they will put Land Rover back on the "for sale" market?

If they did, who would be a good suiter?

Boy, you know, I wouldn't be surprised if Daimler-Chrysler might not be interested in a situation like that. They do have a strong interest in capable 4x4's what with the G-Wagen, Unimog and now Wrangler in their little stable.

Imagine a factory Defender with a Hemi and all the other goodies? MMmmmmmmmmm

Given DC already owns Jeep, and also finds itself in a precarious situation, this is doubtful. With no one is really doing well, save Porsche, LR will stay with Ford. Jag is the one losing money, with continuing large investments looming.

The whole thing with Toyota though is that I can't recall the last time they looked outside their own company for anything. Everything they have ever done, all the way back to the original 'Toyopet Crown' has been developed in-house as far as I know. The only time they ever even dealt with anybody other than themselves was with Geo on some designs, but even then I think it was GM that rebadged Toyota cars.

The whole reason this came up was, that I was talking with a new neighbor of mine that works for VW Corporate, he mentioned how the industry was changing... We started talking about Rovers and Ford and where/what may happen, since Ford is having problems.
