Fly and drive?

This could open up more options to bringing back a Defender.
Fly over and inspect it yourself and drive it back. No shipping container or waiting at the docks. And certainly no surprises.
The only remaining hassle is Customs.
Road from Europe to U.S.? Russia proposes it

She would be able to drive to Russia and say "I can see my house from here."

Don't be silly, that was Tina Fey that said that not Palin. Why would we want to build a road there? so that Putin could just drive across with all his tanks or the Chinese...what could possibly go wrong?

Laughable since at the moment you can't even drive to that part of Alaska. And they arrest people that try to come to Russia that way.

From Google Maps:
1,785 miles / 30 hours from London, UK to Moscow Russia.
3,206 miles / 69 hours from Moscow to Irkutsk.
3,183 miles / 66 hours from Irkutsk to Magadan.
???? / ?? hrs from Magadan to Anadyr

Already at 408 gallons of diesel at 20mpg (US) to get to Magadan, equivalent to several thousand dollars worth of fuel. And that doesn't even get you to Anadyr.

I estimate the total time of the trip to Anadyr to be 30 8-hour driving days, at least.

Then take into account the cost of the remaining trip, from Anadyr to Alaska, then down to whichever state you live in.

Makes ocean freight seem pretty cheap in comparison.

I remember a decade or so ago you could drive up to Canada, take a ferry to Greenland, then Iceland, then some island north of the UK, then to the UK.

Or maybe I conjured that in a dream. Can't remember. But that would've been awesome.
