FJ Cruiser shown at 2005 Chicago Auto Show

Just announced at the 2005 Chicago Auto Show. This is the production prototype of the upcoming Toyota FJ Cruiser. The "spiritual" successor to the FJ-40. Should be in showrooms next year.

It looks almost identical to the concept version shown last year---which is a shame IMO. I had hoped they would have cleaned up the production version and toned down the more radical styling elements. Still, it's something new and different in the swb 4x4 world.

I love Defenders, but that's awesome! Shocks, Pegs, Lucky!
A little cutting at the fenders and a lift and that thing could actually do some wheelin'.

AP1, you know you want it.

Wow, ugly, but it looks like they put lot's of thought into it. I guess it remains to be seen.

Front looks great but I do not like the roof in the rear. Hate how it curves down. I also don't like the massive B pillar.

Pretty neat... Can't say that I love it or hate it just yet.

I do have a question about the tire choice.
The video reveals BFG AT's, but in the Flash website they look like
something else ?? Squarish treads ? Possibly just to make it look
'cooler' for presentation purposes... who knows ?

They kinda look like the Nike/BFG tires for the H3, prolly never use them, but cool for presentation purposes.

I'm just stoked to see that front end again. I realize the angles aren't all that good, but I get the feeling some old school cruiser guys out there are going to make some cool trucks with them.

I also like to see big car companies going back to trucks that go places. I mean, wouldn't you like to see the next Defender have the same type front end? All square and tough. If they meshed the Defender and Disco like Toyota meshed the FJ40 and Highlander the new Defender could almost start looking like the Bowler Wildcat.

I know I know, it'll probably be the Defender and Freelander, but a man can have dreams can't he?

I sure hope the Defender doesn't look anything like the concept pictures that we have been seeing!

Bill Burke has been working with Toyota and just tested the truck on the Rubicon Trail, he sad it did very well. He tried to convince them to use a live front axle but they wouldn't listen.
