First-time D90 buyer

Hi Everyone,
I'm looking to purchase my first Defender and while I know it's difficult to give your opinion without actually seeing the vehicle. I thought I would share what I know about a particular vehicle that's for sale and see if anyone would be willing to share their thoughts!

I'm looking at a 1995 D90 fastback that's for sale in Rhode Island... 3.9 V8, Interior is rhino lined, Badger GK half cab soft top and the under side has been waxoyl'd.

The vehicle spent most of it's life in Durham, NC and has 123k miles. I haven't seen it in person, but based on the pictures the exterior is in great condition while the interior could use some attention. The owner is asking $26,000.

What do you think? Is it worth $26k? Should I be concerned about the mileage?

Any advice or feedback is appreciated!

Thanks.

Seems in nice condition....although I think the price is high for a 95 w/out a/c.

Just make sure that you won't want a full cage, some time in the future, they are very hard to find and expensive.

With out the cage, rear seat and AC, I would look closer to $22K.

Plan on a full tune up, changing all the fluids, re-doing the wheel bearings and oil cooler lines when you get it. Just so you have a record of when everything is done. Even if the seller says he just did it.

And missing the rest-half of the cage, bench, seatbelts, hardware, etc.

Not that it makes much difference, but I forgot to mention the owner has installed a front-facing back seat w/lap belts.

jjstahl3, what do you think it's worth?

Thanks.

AutoCheck shows it spent most of its life in Washington and Oklahoma, only a month in NC before RI where it's only been for less than a year.

How long has it been for sale? See the "you know you're an owner if" thread.

I was told yesterday my price expectation for a truck was double over what the market price should be for it, so I'm not a good source for that apparently...even though the price went for the price I was defending. I'm still confused by that.

I don't plan on doing anything crazy with it, mostly local driving and trips up north (NH/ME) for hunting and fishing.

I think it depends. 20 would be well bought but it going for more wouldnt surprise me. It just depends where it is for sale.

White tends to hold its value well.

Is this the first truck you are looking at/will have driven? If so, I would recommend driving as many as you can (including D90 members trucks that are not for sale). Often times the difference between a $22K and $25K comes down to way the truck feels and sounds and what the buyer is willing to spend.

Definitely go look at and drive any truck you would consider buying. But Jeff is right - drive as many as you can so you can get a feel for them - the driving experience can vary wildly depending on the condition and modifications.
