Finally, I'm Legal again

10 months of attempts and repairs, and finally I get the D-90 legitimately inspected and emissions tested. Not only that, but it probably tested cleaner than anything else I've ever seen. Only 9ppm Hydrocarbons, and 0.00% Carbon Monoxide.

And the overheat problem is gone too, thanks for the suggestions on the flex-a-lites, I now have them hooked into a temp switch in the thermostat housing, and working great.

Of course, just to have fun with me, the truck decides that it needed to break the hood latch cable.

LOL That reminds me, I need to get mine inspected too Glad the fans worked out well, do you like the extra space under the hood now too? Sounds like it might be time for hood pins! Or just fixing the cable, you can just splice it together quick if need be by shortinging the path to the hood latch.

I just had mine emissions tested, I was due and wanted to see how clean it was running. Only 150 miles on the new 4.6 and if my tune was very wrong I wanted to know. Aside from the deafening howl of the 34" LTB's on the dyno, and worrying about the tester-guy putting my 90 through the wall, it was pretty uneventful. I passed, but do you think the numbers are higher than they should be?

HC GPM--------1.1342
CO GPM--------7.4728
CO2 GPM--------736.0337
NOX GPM--------2.9394

What do you think?

Good question..... I'd have to check what the ratings in the colorado tests actually mean. What does GPM stand for? And what were the limits?

Ummmm.... and how the hell did you Dyno test a Defender? They use 4-wheel dynos out there? Here in NY it's only a two wheel dyno, so they do an idle speed test for anything thats full time awd or 4wd.

Yep, they have a four wheel dyno. The NASA engineers at the testing center said they could do an idle test but they were going to dyno it anyway...
I had my '01 GMC pickup with 125k miles tested the same day. It's results:

HC GPM----------.247
CO GPM----------1.837
CO2 GPM---------461.3984
NOX GPM---------.6274

I don't know if I should expect the high milage newer model to perform better or the no mileage, rechipped model to do better.

As to what GPM stands for, all I could come up with was "Girl's Panty Meter". It makes sense that a D-90 would score higher than a pickup.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
limits:
HC GPM------4.00
CO GPM------20.00
NOX-----------9.00

Hmmmm, maybe it means 'Grams per minute'?

The Defender passed with lots of room to spare, but I'd like to have seen better IF it was stock. With the 4.6, I'm assuming that you put in a chip as well? That would most likely be running a richer mixture than the emissions conscious factory calibrations, so it's probably not a problem. I also wonder what kind of condition your cats may be in, mine were brand new with only 150-200 miles on them before I had the inspection done.

Ok, makes sense to me..... in NY we go by parts per million and percentages, depending on whats being tested.
