Fastenal shipping everywhere

Today Fastenal opened shipping to all stores in the lower 48.

Before today less than half of the Fastenal stores participated in the 3rd party logistics that allowed customers to ship crated goods cheaply among Fastenal stores.
Now this program has been expended to all the stores.
This is huge.

Tried to ship east to west a few weeks ago, and got turned down as the demand was too high. Check with them first for availability.

I had a similar issue with trying to ship to Colorado. Had to fedex instead.

Just tried to get a quote to ship a set of seats and got this response...

"Thank you for requesting a Fastenal shipping quote. Unfortunately, we are not hauling shipments East to West due to capacity issues. I apologize for any inconvenience this may cause. Please let me know if you have any questions.

Thank you,"

I think it happens from time to time when I tried to bring my 200tdi from Denver to Va it was a no go due to no extra capacity on their company trucks. So if they are having to use subcontractors they won't want to put extra freight on.

Had a pallet from AZ to VA shipped out a week or two ago. Arrived in VA today but wasn't on the usual 3PL/Fastenal truck. Store was surprised that a separate delivery was made to the store just for this pallet. Maybe subcontractor as mentioned above...

Had a couple shipments from the west coast to Virginia a month or so back. Takes some time but you can save a bunch...as long as you do not need it quick.

The deal is to fill empty space on company trucks and offset some fuel costs.

Mr Rose sent me a headliner thru fastenal. It got a bit mixed up along its way but got here in a reasonable amount of time. When I called to track down the package they forwarded me to their "3PL" (third party logistics?) and mentioned that it was on a contractor truck. Just fwi. Can't beat the price for sure.

Norwalk, CT still does not participate in 3PL for some reason. Have now taken a set of wheels there twice. First time was told they would need to be palleted. Went today with pallet and was told that Norwalk is not a 3PL hub. Pain in b@lls.

My local Fastenal doesn't have a forklift. Every time I have to ship something heavy to/from there, I have to explain how they borrow one from next door, apparently in trade for beer. I don't mention the beer part when I arrange shipping...
