There is a special ring of hell for people who break into defenders.

Glad the damage is minimal.

What an asshole. I think all people that steal should either work a little bit harder, or rot in hell. I've gotten way too much stolen from me from over the years.

Some time between last night and this morning ... we had torrential downpours this morning so I was fortunate it didn't get wet inside ... so annoying ... it's not like I can just go and get it fixed somewhere either .... Even RN sit is down to make it harder for me to order the parts!

Oh my tom tom has a Land Rover splash screen on the startup and the rain coat can from France so I'd easily recognize it!

The amazing thing was the cops came within about 15mins and filled a report ...

You can also call Mike over at Manhattan Euro Parts first thing in the AM and see if he has it in stock or can get it to you asap.

Sorry man. Happened to me to out in the woods while mountain biking not too long ago. Took all my clothes, towel, blanket and tools. Left the beer. They smashed both passenger and rear window on passenger side on mine. A year later I was finding glass inside.

After that I got a Viper alarm with glass sensor, etc and a keyfob that goes off if the alarm is triggered. I got my windows tinted to the state limit so you can't see what's in the back now. I also have a webbing net behind the front seats to make it more difficult to get back there. I would like to get a metal dog guard but I don't know if they're compatible with the NAS roll cage on the inside.

I'm also getting window guards for the rear and I am designing a more discrete set of window guards for the front doors. You can never prevent someone from breaking in but you can make it as difficult as possible for them. If you have a Tuffy always put your Tom Tom etc in there when you leave. If you don't, buy one. I wouldn't take it to just any glass shop. Take it somewhere where they have disassembled the rear windows before and make sure they put them in correctly. Order new felt, etc while you're at it.

Some asshole out there is walking around in my underwear, wearing my Laphroagh hat.

Thanks all, RDS have the glass on their site so I'll give them a call along with Manhattan parts .. someone should have it. The car is back in storage so repairs will have to wait until next weekend. I might just rig up an LED that flashes when the ignition is off ... I'm more pissed by the window and broken glass than a cheap tom tom.

If I have to take the glass out I might but security film on it. Anyone tried it?

The film won't do much except hold the glass together when it's hit. I have the magnum whatever-its-called tinted kind. Its more effective for not being able to see in. The Tom Tom was likely what triggered the break in. If they don't see anything they'll move on to the next car.

Tom Tom was in my console not on display ... I think a rain coat in a torrential downpour ... they tried for the stereo but couldn't get it out quickly I guess ... we had some pretty serious rain here this morning ...

Nothing sucks more. Had several cars broken into up in Boston before moving to NYC. We ended up living down across from the Stock Exchange inside the security cordon and never had to worry about being broken into (car or home). Something about security carrying heavy weaponry discourages thieves, muggers, etc. Now up in Fairfield with nice long range of site across front yard.

I think black out tint is a great idea. Most often a crime of opportunity. Or you could go for one of the South African flamethrower carjacker repellent systems.

look up this website "the12volt.com" they have a lot of info in regards to insallations of electronics in many cars and trucks including the rigging of fake led's.
my state allows for 5% limo tint on the rear and with special permission up to 35% up front... trust me I have taken that permission to the limit of the law just to keep my stuff away from window shoppers.
and never leave anything of value out on the seats... my wife on the other and she is from the country so she does not begin to understand the meaning of securing your crap.
knock on wood I have not been hit by a thief in almost 10 yrs.
I know how inconvenient and expensive (to say the least) such issue can be.
I dont really care of the stuff they steal but all the frigging damage they leave behind, specially when they rip the radio out of the dash and just break the dash and short out wires.
the more I type the angrier I become at past experiences so I'll stop now.

Someone else who listens to Portishead? Sweet! The memories I have rolling around in Kosovo at night in an IFAV with Dummy playing.... priceless.

Sucks about the break-in. A special place in the afterlife is reserved for such scum.

I'm quite familiar with the problem myself too from last week.

Fortunately my only damage was glass and the theft ... Seriously thinking about a Tuffy and window guards.
