Experience with 1983 2500cc TDI engine getting smog'd in CA

I am interested to see if anyone has any experience importing and registering a 2500cc TDI completely rebuilt into California.

The engine is mounted to a 1982 LR Series III and would be coming in from the EU.

Not a legal combo to be brought into the US let alone California.

Series 3's were never sold to the best of my knowledge with a turbo'd motor, let alone a 200tdi. So it is ineligible for US import in its current configuration. Would be smartest to get a Pre 1976 Series for california i believe.

Not to be a dick, but did you perhaps see the other thread you started on this, or the dedicated thread that is also linked in that other thread you started? Come on dude.

Thank you for the information. This truck was rebuilt completely and the new engine was upgraded for the Series III.

The other thread was in regards to a separate question about importing.

I was asking a specific question in regards to this setup with a different engine. I wanted to see if anyone had experience with a 2500TDI coming into CA.

Sorry for asking a ? on a forum that is about helping others.

Questions are fine, but we've already led you to the water and it's time to drink. The specificity of this thread still perfectly applies to the answers in the other threads, and from what it looks like it may apply to the "what's legal" thread to begin with if the vehicle is not equipped with the same type engine it was manufactured with. Just seeing if you're understanding what's already been posted for you and if you just need clarification, or if you haven't read into these issues much yet. The threads mentioned are "sticky" at the top of the sub-forums because we used to get 2-3 people starting new threads on these issues per day/week and wanted to create low hanging apples from which to pick the knowledge.

Dude. If you're getting a smackdown by josh, don't buy the truck.

and yes, no way you'll ever make that legal in the golden state.
