Ex military V5 issues

Working on a V5 for a ex mod 110 and wanted to pass this along

The DVLA in UK will no longer accept British Motor Museum heritage certificates for dating on vehicle that's getting its first V5. It's not just Rover's. Been talking to some Fiat and other car guys with same issue this last month or two.

You need a dating letter from an approved club (DVLA oddly had no list of clubs) or the factory. The Land Rover contact you need is below if anybody needs it.mbishop6@jaguarlandrover.com

Crazy part is BMM uses land rover's own records.

Good news is customs still likes the BMM heritage certificates so they are worth the 45.

Hope this helps

I'm guessing that they uncovered a fraudulent BMH certificate or two scheme.
A club is likely less proven and secure method.
Some dumb civil servant thought up this idea..

Never used a heritage certificate, see little to no value in them. The 6quid archivist email stating build date is sufficient for US Customs- who have consulted with BMH archives in the past.

If you are going to export it why do you need a V5, or are you not going to export ?

The Ministry of Defense cast off certificate clearly states an in service date and the date cast off/released by the ministry. I've done well over 100 ex mod trucks
direct from Withams for forum members and never had any of them on a v5 and have had no issues with US registration using the cast off certificate to meet the foreign registration requirement.

Thanks!
Never done a direct release. Eveything I've brought over over the years was V5. Very good to know.

Hell no! I'm done. Already have two boys Hugh and Harry. She had her tubes tied. I'm already full time daddy daycare! I used the think the airlines was bad sleep, pay, and horrible boses. They have nothing on an angry 3 year old!

Yep, V5 has big bold letters "this document is not proof of ownership" right on the front ... can go without if you are exporting directly.

I really like every bit of paper I can have and the L for 1992 plates just so customs has loads of dated stuff.

Bunch of Rover's over the years on dated plates and V5's with heritage certificates.

Just playing it super safe.

My 1994 has a year of release V5, and shows it as a MY2000. When it comes time to import to US, sounds like it will be interesting.

Sorry for the length in advance. It may be different in every state and I'm not arguing against Uncle Doug or others like Derek that have done this many times and a wealth of experience under their belt. I can tell you my experience in Massachusetts. The top supervisor started the process and was very adamant on what he wanted. The V5, the Homeland Security/US Customs document and bill of sale with odometer reading.

When I asked if he needed the casting document from the MOD the supervisor said "I don't need that thing" and tossed it back to me and went directly to the back page of the Customs document for the check box that I believe was the 25yr emissions exempt paragraph. Then he circled everything on the V5 to be completed and signed by me and sent me to another window to have a clerk complete the data entry which created more confusion with entering correct vehicle birth dates and odometer reading etc.

So to shorten up, everything was entered correctly (title now shows) and the last words from the supervisor as he walked away were 'its a piece of junk anyway' with a smirk on his face. It was a pretty stressful event. Someone like that can ruin your day.

I have a couple ex mod trucks here titled on Nantucket. They were direct mod releases with only cast off certificates. Sorry you had a bad experience with your DMV location, sounds like the guy was a tad pompous. The only issue these owners had was that the trucks came straight to me in Virginia and I sent them the entry docs. They made the mistake not going to Mass dmv right away and titling the vehicles. Mass charges you sales tax back to the date when you bought the car and charges interest on that tax. There's a reason its called Taxachusettes.

Thanks Doug, ya part of the reason i posted this is to find if it was possibly just me being in the wrong registry on the wrong day with the wrong person but i was prepared and had more paperwork than was asked for.

All i can say is i walked out of there with plates in hand biting my lip.
