Evinrude Super Fastwin 18 electric start 1957

Just picked this up for stupid cheap ($100) and it is like perfect and clearly never used much. It has had the tiller removed but that doesn't really matter to me cz I'm gonna remote it. It'll be my kicker/trolling motor on the Allmand. Just found a Simplex side mount control box and got two new cables from Ebay.
I am struggling with one small thing which is the remote electric choke. They didn't make a lot of the electric start models and the linkage is pretty hard to come by. I have a line on the bracket, and I have a solenoid, but the small rod from the bell crank to the choke pull is eluding me. I can certainly walk back there and pull the choke out and then go back to the helm and hit the starter, but if I can get it working so much better. I guess I could make one but I have no idea how I would make the super tiny holes for the cotter pins.
I'm going to keep it set up with the pressure tank for now even tho there are lots of people out there who have converted to a regular fuel pump and tank.
For those not clued in these outboards are built so they will last several lifetimes. It'll be enjoyed by someone long after I'm gone that's for sure.

Can't you use somting like the clip that holds the door lock rods in place? I thunk you were a JB weld man a little dab will do ya.
Great find.

Having spent many years knocking round in small outboard boats, I would never use one again, got biten by the water jet drive love them. But no more water for this guy, still looking for that place where I can carry a paddle and folks say what's that..

John I have two American Turbine drives gathering spiders in the barn. I spent all kinds of time on them and they even have rudders and hydraulic trim! I am looking hoping a pair of Chrysler 440s fall out of the sky so i can build my dream boat....someday. Basically a 28 foot jon boat with a thousand horsepower so i can go 80 in six inches of water.
I agree that the best boat is the one you use most often and that is by far my kayak.
