Will, I remember many years ago the orange one was talked about on here. Was it a members? I think it looks fantastic...

I should have bought that truck when Mike offered it to me on behalf of the owner.

There is a thread where I tracked them down. IIRC both the green and red are in Ohio but no pics I could find exist after the original promotional ones. As said, the Orange is pretty famous and is known to the community.

Here's a forum link to the orange one:

http://www.defendersource.com/forum/...ead.php?t=2597

Mike -

Good to know they were factory painted. I made the assumption that they were painted at the port not only because they were spread so far apart in the production process, but because my '97 Willow Green Disco delivery was delayed by a couple of weeks due to getting whacked along its trip to the U.S... those port guys did a pretty good job respraying it.

I've wondered about the resale of a "test color" (the phrase used to describe the orange one above) ever since I was a kid. In the late '80s my dad and I went to buy him (another) Saab 900 - and, being in New England where the corporate headquarters were at the time - we stumbled in on a day when the reps had two SPG models they were looking to get out for feedback on the colors. One was black and one was silver. At the time, I was glad my dad picked black because it was such a good looking car. But, now that it sits awaiting restoration, I wonder if he had gone with the factory-painted silver... the only one I ever saw, as Saab ended up going with the black for the '88 production year.

He got it at a huge discount (well below the price of a base turbo) because he agreed to report back to Saab NA what people on the street had to say about the color. I don't imagine the same was true of these 90's. Although, who knows? I can say that Mike Hopwood, who owns the 4x4 Center and started the off-road driving school at Rovers North, was able to pick up LRNA #4 very inexpensively... his wife still drives that daily during the non-salty months. I've always had a soft spot for that Defender, because it was and is used precisely the way it was intended and a LOT of Land Rover enthusiasts cut their teeth on it.

Images of the 90 when we sold it in 2010. According to the new owner it still looks the same (it only has a few thousand miles after these pictures). The last owner used to keep it in his garage and only drove it on nice days. In 4 years he put about 4K miles on it.

I do not check PMs. Call or email if you need something.

ECR is not a parts source. We are not in the mail order business.

Hey Guys...yes it's true. My wife and I are the proud new owners of the Blue Hella Defender. It now resides in York, PA and sits peacefully in a climate controlled garage. I actually drove it to our Easter celebration and it ran like a top. This thing is TRICK! It is actually featured on ECR's website as one of their Defender 90 restoration projects. I think they threw every option at this thing including the kitchen sink. Hell (pardon the pun), I just figured out what the red handle forward of the drivers seat is (thought it was an O-Sh!t lever), rock crawling gears. Anyway, just wanted to check in with the forum and introduce ourselves to the community. Looking forward to meeting/discussing things with the members here and learning about these trucks!!

Welcome to the Defender Source, Rick!
There is a local Land Rover club: ROVERSclub.org, and they host a variety of events, including the upcoming Spring Trials in Robesonia, PA.
The competition is fun and the social aspect is even better. I'm pretty sure there would be a number of people would love to see this D90 in person, including myself!
Ask Andrew, he's been there a few times!

Let me know if you need any more info on the Trials.
Trevor

Welcome Rick. It's now your duty (as a new board member and the owner of a hell-a rare D90) to post more pictures. Preferably in this thread and start a registry page.

Hey Rick, I'm the president of ROVERS and a born and raised York County native. Come on up to Robesonia!
