The fact is that the Beetle, Mini, Porsche, Jeep were all fairly well rec'd with regard to the design elements which both paid homage to the marque's past, as well as the modern upgrades which would carry the line through the next century.

Remember the redesign of the Mustang around 1994? Remember the whole ad campaign? The design team made sure everyone knew the Mustang was "back" - they paid homage to design elements from all of the years the Mustang had produced (and went as far as to show side-by-side shots) with exception to the late 70s- early 90s design.

The only side-by-side shot they'd be able to take to tie together the original Defender and this redesign would be the name Land Rover.

I owned three Range Rover classics when Land Rover Unveiled the MK III at the Detroit Auto show in 2002. I couldnt have been any more excited to rush out and buy one. I thought they did a masterful job with the redesign of that vehicle. They missed the mark IMO with the P38 but redeemed themselves. I hope we see the same thing happen with the defender.

Josh, I agree with you. The design element is where LR missed the mark. I see Kia's on the road all the time and think it looks very close to the DC100. I will say the Blue pictures are a little better. They could tweak this design and draw some from the heritage.

All they need is one huge style cue from the current truck and this thing will sell like hot cakes. The roof has the ribbs so all they need is to some hon throw the current defender front spry of how all wranglers have the same jeep seven slot grill and people wil hate it less.

The Dubai one looked better in white

Actually all it needs to do to sell well is "look" offroad capable. Like the FJs and H2s...Whatever happened to this?

About which part? The look capable part? No I wasnt kidding about that....The majority of people will never offroad their trucks but want them to look mean. Kind of like you buying a winch mount. I wasnt aware they made the SVX soft top. Just put airbags in that damn thing and call it day.

Well boys it seems we have come full circle... All of us hate having our Rovers confused with Jeeps. I even bought one of Gustavos "its not a bloody Jeep" bumper stickers to reinforce that point on my S1. But I think we could all agree if the new Defender was to come out and be easily confused with the Rubicon none of us would be complaining......

Still no talk about the 4WD system.

I could live with an all-mechanical version of the LR3 or Range Rover 4WD system.

I would really like an improved version of the existing running gear, with beefed up parts.

Just imagine a Defender concept that looked just like a Defender but with Evoque 4WD. Probably the only thing scarier than the DC100.
