Evapo-Rust

It isn't often that I come across something that is a game changer for me in regards to vehicle maintenance and restoration. I saw this stuff in the hardware store and on impulse bought a gallon cz it was supposed to be non toxic. Mind you I have been derusting with Muriatic acid and that stuff is some awfully angry schmidt.
I tried a half bucket of Evapo-Rust with an overnight soak on a pair of shock mounts and all I can say is wow. They went from heavily crusted to looking like fresh castings. I had to scrub very little; just to take the dirt layer off after several hours. The next day they were clean, and I mean clean. Better than if they'd been glass beaded clean. Best part is that it is as benign as water.
I am not a spokesperson at all, just glad I found this stuff.
Yup, it turns to mud color right off the bat, but that doesn't reduce it's abilities...it's only suspended particles. You can return it to the container and use it over and over until it dries up.
It is meant for soaking parts in, not as a brush on treatment.

Cool! So I'm not the only one here with some rusty parts
!
everything I have tried on impulse lately has been garbage.
I tried a "green" paint remover and it was like orange juice that did nothing to the paint!

Good find, thanks for sharing!

Well here is the result of a 4 day soak. When I say these calipers were heavily rusted I mean they had to have the pads beaten out of them. They were rust welded onto the rotor. As you can see the bores have been left untouched and all the threads are clean. I could probably leave them for another day or two to get absolutely every last molecule.
Keep in mind I had these on the workbench near the laundry and no complaints of chemical odors or what. In fact it has no odor at all.
I would recommend this product for all small parts derusting.
