I ran an unlocked 3G in Cyprus 6 years ago without issue. The 4 and 4s I think need a carrier unlock (government legislation required them to offer it after like 2010). And the 5 is factory unlocked x2.

European prepaid system is much better than ours; just throw a sim into your iPhone and go. Def wouldn't call the carrier to run international as it is a serious involuntary colon cleansing if you get me drift

Rome

when in Rome I would highly recommend the Domus romane exhibition
http://www.palazzovalentini.it/info.php?lang=eng
only trouble is it closes at 17:30.
The Colosseum is awesome in the evening just watch for pickpockets - mostly Romanian kids on the tube & in the stations.

hope you both enjoy your stay in the UK you could always stay in and watch the TV imagine watching a program without adverts every 5mins.

A brief period watching tv in a florida bar 15yrs ago has left me brain f****d with the Caesers pizza jingle .. mm pizza pizza.

regards All
Gren

Wouldn't work for me in London, Paris or Montreal... maybe I should have gone to Asia.... ;-)

What map program do you use?

I don't pay for Canadian cell service... and it was far enough away I couldn't hit any US towers. A friend of mine has to go to Windsor for work and I guess it's close enough to Detroit he can get US cell service.

Hmmm I'll have to try harder. I could get the little dot to show where I was, but eventually as soon as I moved far enough off the screen I was looking at there was no more map, just a blank screen.

That's because you need to load the maps when you have wifi. Scroll around and zoom in. Once you do that they are loaded.

I'm going to London and Amsterdam pretty soon, and I thought I'd be better prepared this time. I just learned a new trick: you can save offline maps in google maps! Zoom out to what you want to download. Then in the search bar type "ok maps" and it will prompt you to save the maps.

Then it will show up when you start typing in the search bar later:
