My dilemma is that I get free maintenance for the first 30,000 miles. And mine is the first year for Jettas using DEF. I'm afraid the new software might increase consumption based on what one of the articles implied. Lower MPG, higher maintenance costs, etc. If that turns out to be the case, I hope they give us all a big fat refund check.

I did not do the December recall for the ECU update. Matters not to me, once my extended warranty (don't have to use dealer even though the warranty is VW) is up, the cat and DPF are going and I will roll coal with straight pipes.

Given time, someone will jailbreak the computers and reprogram them back original.

Stock down over 20% or billions wiped off market value. Dealers are prevented from selling new and second hand diesel models. Now that folks can't purchase used from the dealer, wonder how this will impact sales from individuals. Perhaps a spike in price?

I just started a new thread about this over on VW Vortex to make sure they're aware of the issue.

First they came for the Defenders, then they came for the Jettas. Pretty soon I'll have nothing left to drive.

I do wonder what'll happen to demand. Certainly if all VW dealers have effectively removed all of their used vehicles from the market and can't let any new ones enter we may see a short term gain in prices depending on demand based on consumer risk aversion (i.e. how badly will any fix affect mpg's, will any consumer settlement cover jettas sold both privately and through dealers or only to those from the dealers, etc.).

Be shocked if they weren't. It's all over Fred's tdi close to 100 pages of thread since Sept 18

Agree. I am a bottom feeder. Even purchased a 96' Isuzu Trooper ( ) when dealers couldn't give them away b/c of the Consumer Report article. Did the same with Audi in the late 80s. Back to the Trooper, it was a truck compared to the crap being produced by the big 3 at that time. Boxed frame, big 4-wheel disk brakes (every bit as good as a NAS), low on power but towed great, etc. Every bit as reliable as my 05' 4Runner.

Ironic comparison of VW to Lance Armstrong.
https://twitter.com/vikramreuters/st...47599346491392
Stock is at a 3-yr low. PE is 5 and it yields over 3%. The question is if the Euro market is impacted. China represents 50% of VW's profit. But they are also the leaders in corporate shenanigans and smog generation. Don't see an impact there.

The Lusitania was torpedoed by a German U-boat. The German battleship Bismarck was sunk by us I believe.

Titanic was a combination of freak of nature and poor engineering design.
